Negro Ensemble Company

And so from there...

The co-director or co-creator of the Negro Ensemble Company, Mr. Robert Hooks, came to Washington, D.C., and he created the D.C. Black Repertory Company.

And I want to just show you some images from that historic theater.

I got to see...

Negro Ensemble Company had a touring show right after the play left Broadway, and it came to Detroit, which is where I grew up.

And I got to go see it, and it was a freezing night in Detroit.

It was wintertime, there was snow and all of that, and the place was absolutely packed.

So that was the first one that I did.

And it went so well in the new play project that they did it again in their season.

And that was the play that went to the Negro Ensemble Company in New York.

So that play kind of had a life that started me not only doing theater in Atlanta, but also was the first time I had had a play done.
