But I have a high, high, high regard for the acumen of the management team, including Jonathan Goodman, the CEO, who I regard as a personal friend.

His father, Ned Goodman, was, of course, a very important mentor of mine for a very long time until he unfortunately passed away.

Seymour, I have good news and I have bad news.

The good news was that they had bought their first royalty, and Lassonde added that he thought they would make five times their money.

He had no idea whether they would, he admitted later.

He had to give his partner something.

The bad news came next.

We got no more money because that was all the money we had in the treasury.

Lassonde later described his partner's reply.

And for like 10 minutes, I had to hold the phone up here.

There had to be a sale somewhere in order for them to get paid.

And I remember, uh, Guy by the name of Ned Goodman was running the Dynamic Mutual Funds at the time.

And he said to me one time, Warren, I'd love to buy you out because you're so entrepreneurial.

The way your whole business is structured, you pay people when they do the work.

[laughs]

Then I had the luxury of going over into, uh, Dundee and working with Ned Goodman and, and the whole Dundee group of companies, which obviously they specialized in the hard assets side of the investment world, and learned a lot from that team and from, uh, Ned personally on the real estate side, and moved over from equities, uh, research into investment banking.

And that kind of took me to my path with Interrent.

Uh, Interrent was a pretty big client of ours, uh, back at Dundee, and I got to know the space quite well.

One of them was a He's now passed on.

He used to be my boss, a guy named Ned Goodman, who founded a company called Dundee.

And there's many arms to Dundee now.

They're into real estate.

So he was trying to lock up the land and that sparked a consolidation that didn't finish until 2024.

So from 1990 until 2024, the echo, the ghost of the company that did that drilling, they still held the land claims for the exploration claims for that 4.3 million tons, but they had no ability to grow.

Whereas my old boss, Ned Goodman, had surrounded him with claims.

And so there was this kind of Mexican standoff, right? One's got the peanut butter, the other's got the chocolate.
