Maurice Rapf, who had been writing live action features at the time, was asked by Walt Disney Productions to work with Raymond and co-writer Calem Webb to turn the treatment into a shootable screenplay.

According to Neal Gabler, one of the reasons Disney had hired Rapf to work with Raymond was to temper what Disney feared would be Raymond's white Southern slant.

Hm.

Raymond's treatment included the phrases massa, M-A-S-S-A, in reference to white characters, and D-A-R-K-E-Y in reference to plantation workers prominently.

They chop them down into like little like individual bits now.

But that stuff really just really fascinated me, and I read a biography on Walt Disney, which is that one there, the Neil Gabler book, around that time, and just fell in love with the man.

It's a very controversial Walt Disney biopic, and a lot of Disney fans don't like it because it's scathing, and it portrays him as a human and not this kind of whimsical fantasy character that the Disney studio might want to prop him up to be.

It's a Watson or look at this guy who just wanted to make art and that sort of was iron-fisted and was probably very egomaniacal, as you have to be.
