Camille DavisHOST
But it's early.
Camille DavisHOST
It's not NBA 2K.
Camille DavisHOST
Things don't always come together right away.
Camille DavisHOST
Like, I think they will figure it out.
MarkHOST
And so I picked Asia.
CaitlinHOST
To me, build is like when you build an NBA 2K player or whatever, like what you want, like the size to look like.
CaitlinHOST
You know what I mean? Like the size of the player.
CaitlinHOST
I think Asia Wilson is obviously, I said, like the most physical player in the league.
Ricco PhiniseeGUEST
It's so true.
Ricco PhiniseeGUEST
I used to write a lot of articles and I used to talk a lot about like the top gamers, the top NBA 2K teams and so forth.
Ricco PhiniseeGUEST
And they reached out to me and the NBA 2K League is a part of the NBA.
Ricco PhiniseeGUEST
And I know that the Boston Celtics wanted to start a team and to compete in the esports world.
Ricco PhiniseeGUEST
And they looked to me and I started out as a contractor.
5 MINS LATER
Ricco PhiniseeGUEST
AT&T, NBA, they all picked it up, the content that we were doing together.
Ricco PhiniseeGUEST
So it was just a dope experience seeing that.
Ricco PhiniseeGUEST
And once everyone started to see that, other NBA 2K League teams started to reach out to me wanting to help their players.
Chris PlanteHOST
Next up, I would describe as games that people play just that and nothing else.
Chris PlanteHOST
And I would put maybe NBA 2K or EA FC here.
Chris PlanteHOST
And maybe I'm wrong, like I'm sure there's data that could show whether or not these people are playing other things, but they have that reputation.
Chris PlanteHOST
And then there's the third category and perhaps most interesting to me, which is games that defy the odds.
AndrewHOST
We discussed a big one last week, and we're discussing another one this week, so please tip us off.
DerekHOST
Yeah, for today's show, we will be discussing the turning point for the NBA 2K franchise, the start of gamers turning on the series.
DerekHOST
We'll be talking about NBA 2K18.
DerekHOST
So Andrew, NBA 2K18 released on September 17th, 2017.
DerekHOST
The reception by gamers was not positive, not even mixed.
DerekHOST
It was overall negative, which I will get into shortly.
DerekHOST
You and I have been covering basketball video games together as a team since 2019, so we did not cover the 2K18 outrage via a podcast at the time.
DerekHOST
So, here's our chance.
Nick KostosHOST
You need salaries to match up.
Nick KostosHOST
It's why playing NBA 2K in franchise mode is a nightmare.
Nick KostosHOST
Because you can't make trades you want to make.
Nick KostosHOST
Because great, I can trade for this star player with a couple of picks, but I need salaries to match up so I can trade for that player.
Kayla AndersonHOST
Okay.
Matt GeorgeHOST
According to NBA 2K, this is going to be a tough watch tonight.
Kayla AndersonHOST
Great.
Kayla AndersonHOST
Should have told you that myself.
Kayla AndersonHOST
That's not good.
Matt GeorgeHOST
This is not a tough watch because the Spurs blow out the Kings.
Matt GeorgeHOST
This is a tough watch because NBA 2K is predicting a 91-85 defensive slugfest tonight.
Matt GeorgeHOST
No, thank you.
Kim CarriganHOST
Two rings, which is unbelievable.
Eddie PalladinoGUEST
I'm in my NBA 2K.
Eddie PalladinoGUEST
I've been doing the last eight years of video games.
Eddie PalladinoGUEST
Oh, that's so
Dale JacksonHOST
And some of the other parents were not too pleased with this.
Dale JacksonHOST
And I haven't, you know, look, me and my son occasionally will play like Madden or we'll play NBA 2K or something on a stream, which he likes to do.
Dale JacksonHOST
He wants to play the game and beat his dad on the internet and 15 people will watch.
Dale JacksonHOST
I'm not particularly fond of it, but he's fine with it.
