Last, to El Salvador.

Nayib Bukele's government acknowledged that Irvin Quintanilla, a Salvadoran man deported from the United States, has been in prison for a year and a half, despite facing no criminal charges.

Gabriel Labrador reports that last month, the Salvadoran government told the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, not the court, that Quintanilla's ongoing detention is due to, quote, sovereign collaboration and cooperation between states.

In March 2025, Quintanilla was deported from Texas alongside 252 Venezuelans and dozens of Salvadorans as part of a high-profile deal between Donald Trump and Nayib Bukele.

While the largest group was sent to Venezuela last July, Quintanilla and 35 other Salvadorans were admitted to Bukele's Terrorism Confinement Center, or SICOT.

In a letter to the Inter-American Commission obtained by El Faro, El Salvador avoided directly mentioning the United States.

I said, that's what the world needs.
