Ben Greenfield: 70% Of Longevity Is Free! The Simple Daily Habits That Keep You Young

Yeah, absolutely.

And of course, there are subtle nuances, right? You could probably have a couple shots of whiskey when you wake up for breakfast and chain smoke cigarettes and have plenty of community and friends and faith, and you might not live a long time.

But the idea that once you isolate from most confounding variables, including fitness, diet, et cetera, the quality and volume of love and relationships in your life still trumps everything.
B

I would say it's probably somewhere in the realm of 30% lifestyle factors, right? Your supplements, your diet, your biohacks, et cetera, and probably 70%.
B

the, shall we say, natural, free, easily accessible lifestyle and spirit-based practices.

And the only reason that I say it's probably about a 30-70 split is that, as I know you're very well aware of, because you've even done events in places like Sardinia, if you look at a lot of these locations where there are centenarians or a disproportionately high number of people who live beyond 100 years they aren't doing a lot of red light beds and hyperbaric chambers and stem cell therapies and plasmapheresis but they are outside a lot they're in nature a lot they're typically eating food that your great grandparents would have recognized they're around people many of them have a faith-based practice uh often that faith-based practice involves elements of fasting or caloric restriction or certain times of the year that there might be protein restriction And once we put all of that together, like if you told me I had to go to a desert island and choose to bring the hyperbaric chamber and the red light and all the supplements or choose to bring a few friends, right, and some sunshine and maybe a nice blanket that I can get some good sleep in and some good food, I'd totally choose the latter.

In 2015, you were standing on the noble stage talking about how sometime in the near future, experts would one day work with learning and reasoning machines to come up with solutions and answers to human illness.

Then fast forward, not even two years later, in January of 2017, you had what you called a sleepless night after meeting with Naveen Jain, the founder and CEO of IOM.

Even to the point to where Naveen is like, "I didn't know they could be that coherent at, at that age." And it's like, but it's exposure, Larry, and that's the thing.

And then when you look at, like, you talk about, like, my track record and everything, I've intentionally exposed myself to so many different aspects, whether it was law enforcement or security or sales or even was the first Geek Squad agent in Chicago, or just doing, uh, RadioShack, right? And that was just business related, even though it was, right, a tech firm, but I wanted to be a manager, and for manager training, they taught you how to read PNLs because you were bonused as a store manager off of your net income.
