National Women's History Museum

Thank you, Gloria Steinem.

And so the National Women's History Museum says that her first major public speech was an event that was advocating legalized abortion in the state of New York.

And of course, by 1972, Congress had sent the Equal Rights Amendment to the states and it never received enough state ratifications to become part of our constitution in the United States, but it absolutely became part of the American landscape.

Then we move into Roe v.

She chairs the humanities department at Merrimack College, where she's an expert in feminist history, particularly post-World War II women's history and women's entrepreneurship.

In fact, when the National Women's History Museum needed someone to write their material about Gloria Steinem, they turned to her.

Uh, Professor Michaels, if you were to give the CliffsNotes about Gloria Steinem's life, where would you start? Like, w- where do you begin t- to sort of think about her in the big picture here?

Wow.

Yeah.

You know, what that means for the National Women's History Museum obviously that I think is a trickier question.

But at least for now that seems to be happening.

happening.Briefly, there's been an outpouring of support from museum authorities for the Smithsonian, the AAM, which is the American Alliance of Museums, and ICOM, which is the International Council of Museums.

I have placed a number of women in positions.

In fact, we were fortunate to get the search for the CEO of the National Women's History Museum, which we put in there.

Some of my friends joke with us.

They say, well, they probably thought you looked good in a skirt.
