National sovereignty

You look at all this and you recognize the United States has always been committed to the United Nations, but not very committed.

The United States, and for that matter, the other nations, especially in the P5, would never enter into anything like the United Nations if it meant any curtailment of their national sovereignty and national power.

And so you're looking at the fact that if the General Assembly of the United Nations tried to do something to change that, those five nations, again, Britain, France, the United States, Russia, and China, they together and individually would never put up with that.

The current and now outgoing General Secretary of the United Nations, António Guterres, he has been calling for additional authority to be given to other nations.
