National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology

He was a, a, a senior fellow or senior advisor there at the, um, with FAS.

And before that, he was a senior, uh, advisor with the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology.

You got it right.

Nobody does.

Today, I'm joined by Caitlin Fraser, Executive Director of the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology.

In the previous episode, we spoke with Commission Chair Senator Todd Young about why biotechnology is becoming increasingly important to U.S. national security and competition with China.

In this episode, we have an opportunity to take a deeper dive in the Commission's final report and work, its final reports from April 2025 and its recommendations.

To your point about the, I guess, the divided communities, having studied China for quite some time, it's pretty clear to me that for many years, global health was an area identified as where the United States could cooperate with China on.

So it might be pretty difficult for folks who are used to thinking about how do we work with China to also put on their national security hat and then think about, you know, how do we view this from a competitive lens? Right.

But before asking more about the report, I did want to also spend a little bit of time discussing the National Security Commission.

So I'm engaged in ways that make sense.

We are a member for the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology.

They came to Denver, did a roadshow.

I have reached out to a lot of our local and federal representatives just to talk about what we're doing here because it's really important.

It's about really defining it and seeing it from all different perspectives.
