So what happens between a patient and a clinician, and what happens inside an institution through its protocols or organizational culture, and what happens at the societal level, right? Those laws, policies, and historical legacies really matter.

And so when we are grounding, this paper really kind of helps to ground the reader in such frameworks, like resource frameworks, that was pointed out in the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities because it maps out how disparities emerge across many systems.

So what is the biological piece, the behavioral, environmental, the social cultural domain, and how that interacts at the individual, the interpersonal, and the community levels, and the society i- in general as well.

And so the payoff here is that multi-thinking pushes us towards multilevel intervention because one single fix isn't going to help dismantle a multilevel problem, and this message, and I think what this paper does, is show that perioperative medicine is well-positioned to speak in this space.

But if the powers that be can come and take it all from you and just pull it out from under you, then it's an illusion of equity and it's not real.

So this feels very much like a, I'm going to borrow a term we use a lot in statistics, a regression, right? My research right now is funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities.

There is currently no issue in terms of pulling funding, but the Institute may be targeted because of the nature of the research that's funded.

And so with this funded trial, we've been successful in recruiting 275 participants so far, and we have about 100 to go.

The Office of Infectious Diseases and HIV and AIDS Policy is being dismantled, even as HIV remains a serious ongoing condition for over a million Americans and millions more overseas.

More than twenty-three hundred grants from the National Institutes of Health were terminated by last June, with the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities absorbing a disproportionate share of those cuts.

Eleven billion dollars in mental health and addiction grant funding gone, frozen, revoked, with HHS's own spokesperson telling reporters proudly that many of those grants funded what they called outdated efforts to address COVID-era health disparities among, quote, "racial and ethnic minority populations." Read between the lines there for a second.

The addressing of disparities was the thing they considered outdated, not the disparities themselves.
