Yeah, it turns out living with a dog is associated with a substantially lower risk of developing dementia, severe enough to require care.

Researchers from Japan's National Institute for Environmental Studies, the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Geriatrics and Gerontology, and the University of Tokyo looked at health data from about 11,200 people living in Tokyo.

And everyone was 65 years or older when the study started in 2016.

And the researchers followed their health through 2023.

Tokyo recorded sixty-four such days in twenty twenty-three, far exceeding what was once a distant warning.

The University of Tokyo, the National Institute for Environmental Studies, and the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences collaborated on the updated forecast.

The project was supervised by key scientific experts, including a contributor to the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC, reports.

"I hope this becomes a gateway to accelerating the decarbonization of society in order to stop climate change itself," said Professor Seita Imori, a climatologist at the University of Tokyo.
