Federal money has kept flowing under that structure.

EPA and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation announced more than $44 million in Chesapeake Bay watershed grants in February, and the administration says it has cut Chesapeake Bay program administrative spending by nearly $1 million while distributing $2.7 million more to watershed jurisdictions than in fiscal 2025.

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation sees the change differently.

President and CEO Hilary Harp Fox said the 2009 order provided the federal leadership, coordination, science, and accountability needed to restore the Chesapeake Bay, and argued its repeal weakens the federal-state partnership at a moment when stronger coordination, not less, is what the watershed needs.

He's definitely going to be missed.

He's stepping down to become the chief operating officer of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the nation's largest conservation foundation.

So they have a very good person that's going to be filling some shoes there.

Since taking over in 2018, Shawley has guided Yellowstone through COVID-19, record visitation, and the historic 2022 floods.

After nearly three decades of federal service and eight years at the helm of America's first national park, Superintendent Cam Shawley is stepping down in late September.

Shawley will join the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation as its new chief operating officer.

During his tenure, Shawley managed a massive $1.5 billion investment in major infrastructure and conservation projects.

He also guided the park through record-breaking crowds, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the devastating 2022 floods.

Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Cam Shawley is stepping down after eight years in the position.

He's taking a job with the non-profit conservation group, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

Shawley guided Yellowstone through historic visitation during the pandemic and reopened the park 20 days after a large flood in 2022.

He also oversaw the expansion of a program to transfer wild bison to tribes.

You know, they could leverage funds, they had match funding, and there was already motivation through private landowners, through federal agencies.

And suddenly, you know, getting this large scale, you know, grant, it was America the Beautiful, which is now America's Ecosystem Restoration Initiative grant through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, you know, identifying this area and now get a chance to really fill in all those keyholes.

And, you know, where a lot of it is cutting juniper trees, it's cutting or it's treating invasive annual grasses.

It's also setting up a seed bank.

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, along with McDonald's USA, have announced nearly $2.4 million in grants through the Grassland Resilience and Conservation Initiative that will help complete voluntary conservation easements on working ranches across the country, including projects here in Texas.

The funding supports the diligence and transaction costs required to permanently conserve grasslands while keeping ranching operations in production.

The grants will unlock nearly $99.1 million in total conservation impact by leveraging approximately $96.7 million in matching contributions that support the advancement of conservation easements.
