National Cherry Festival

It's a slice of pure Americana.

The town is the epicenter of the National Cherry Festival, an event that draws hundreds of thousands of fudge-eating tourists to the shores of Grand Traverse Bay.

The mood is festive, the weather is usually spectacular, and the skies are filled with the roar of the festival's highly anticipated air show.

It was Friday, July 3rd, 1998, the day before the main event.

It's always a great place.

It produces 70% of the country's tart cherries, and every July, the National Cherry Festival is held in Traverse City.

And from what I recall, every small town in Michigan has a cherry festival at some point or another.
