Corey BrattaGUEST

So we'll see how many carries he gets versus LJ Phillips, who I don't know is totally healthy still with that high ankle sprain he suffered early in week one.
Corey BrattaGUEST
10:33
Nate McNeil, and then Braden Jackson.
Corey BrattaGUEST
10:36
That's the group.
Corey BrattaGUEST
10:37
So the good news is they did develop some depth in the offseason at running back and interior of that O-line, and we'll likely see how real that depth is this Saturday.

Corey BrattaGUEST

But I was ball security has to be the thing.
Corey BrattaGUEST
55:58
And I, that's why I was a little bit, like I say, surprised that Kirk wasn't asked about Xavier Williams today because dude coughed it up twice on Saturday, Mark.
Corey BrattaGUEST
56:09
And My question, if I had been there, would have been, why is LJ Phillips getting so few touches? Is that due to injury? Why is Nate McNeil not playing? But this can be fascinating to see how they handle that room.
Corey BrattaGUEST
56:24
this weekend without Kamari Moulton and they don't have Brevin doll as I mean, not that he would have been a rotational piece, but that's another piece, another option down.
Elliot CloughGUEST
16:11
Is it, are they going to go back to more of LJ Phillips? Braden Jackson only got, I think two carries for a yard over, over the weekend on Saturday.
Elliot CloughGUEST
16:21
Not, I mean, Nathan McNeil, not in any carries.
Elliot CloughGUEST
16:24
So really something to pay attention to.
Elliot CloughGUEST
16:27
And even more so Trent, I think, is the inability to block on the perimeter or on the outside of the offensive line in such a scheme that's so dependent on the tight end.
Zach HeineHOST
14:07
And so I think Xavier Williams could be on a short leash going forward if he puts the ball on the ground again against Northwestern.
Zach HeineHOST
14:16
Don't be surprised to see a heavier dose of O.J. Phillips, Nathan McNeil, who didn't play in this game on offense.
Zach HeineHOST
14:23
Seeing him get more involved, even Braden Jackson.
Zach HeineHOST
14:27
You don't have Kamari Moulton for the rest of the year.
Lucas StrainHOST
29:53
He's just not that guy right now.
Lucas StrainHOST
29:55
I was a little surprised we didn't see Nathan McNeil in this game.
Lucas StrainHOST
30:03
But with that being said...
Lucas StrainHOST
30:05
I think that shows us that they are trying to make Xavier Williams the guy.

David EickholtGUEST
48:30
But he's just got to continue to work on tightening that grip and doing some more drills in that category.
David EickholtGUEST
48:36
I probably agree at this point.
David EickholtGUEST
48:38
I mean, Nathan McNeil, who knows what's going on with Nathan McNeil? I mean, he didn't see the field and his running back room is depleted.
David EickholtGUEST
48:44
I just don't know if he sees a carry the rest of the way, given everything's kind of laid out.
Lyndon Phillips Jr.GUEST
44:02
What's funny is when I'm
Matt VandebergHOST
44:02
hearing this story, you remember having Nathan McNeil on?
Laura VandebergHOST
44:06
Yes.
Laura VandebergHOST
44:06
He

Matt VandebergHOST

Uh, it sounds like Moulton's going to be out for at least a year.
Matt VandebergHOST
115:46
Um, so LJ Phillips and Xavier Williams, like those guys are really going to have to step up.
Matt VandebergHOST
115:50
Nathan McNeil, um, Braden Jackson.
Matt VandebergHOST
115:52
But the fact that I'm able to name four running backs that have played decent, uh, a decent amount of time so far, it's a really good thing for us.
Trent CondonHOST
6:48
He is okay.
Trent CondonHOST
6:50
Nathan McNeil, I like the way that he runs.
Trent CondonHOST
6:54
You see something there that appears that it could be special, but it hasn't shown up against anybody good, no. LJ Phillips, we don't know.
Trent CondonHOST
7:04
Can he really compete at a high level at this level of football after coming in from the FCRF ranks? Remember, LJ Phillips, he got that job at South Dakota because of injuries.
Eliot CloughHOST
16:21
I know Braden Jackson was getting a bulk of the carries in practice, or at least early on this week.
Eliot CloughHOST
16:28
Can LJ Phillips turn one of these broken tackles into a big play? Can he put together something like that? Can you get, I mean, is Nathan McNeil going to see the field hike? um he was on kickoffs today he was wearing 67.
Eliot CloughHOST
16:42
um so he's finding a way but Just a tough position for the group.
Eliot CloughHOST
16:47
Breivendahl not available.
Tyler KluverHOST
14:54
And hey, maybe there's an opportunity where this allows Brayden Jackson to get more consistent big time touches.
Tyler KluverHOST
15:06
We saw Nathan McNeil last week in sort of a weird timing, and he ended up fumbling and then getting it back.
Tyler KluverHOST
15:14
So I don't know where he sits in this depth chart of guys behind LJ Phillips.
Tyler KluverHOST
15:19
Then Xavier Williams had an insane game.
Sean BockGUEST
60:45
I keep forgetting that we have the availability chart that comes out at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, which doesn't mean everything because it's still Wednesday, but it kind of gives us a good look at things.
Sean BockGUEST
60:55
I would guess right now the pecking order goes Braden Jackson, Xavier Williams, Nathan McNeil.
Sean BockGUEST
61:01
That's where I'm going right now if LJ Phillips weren't to play.
Sean BockGUEST
61:04
I think they have a lot of trust in Jackson and what he can do.
Sean BockGUEST
61:17
I know this Wisconsin defense is different and guys are a year older and whatnot, but I think he could provide some value in this game for sure and being able to make plays between tackles.
Sean BockGUEST
61:26
But, man, those backers for Wisconsin are freaking good.
Sean BockGUEST
61:31
But, yeah, I think it's probably going to be Braden, Xavier, and then Nathan McNeil as the packing order right now if LJ weren't able to go.
Lucas StrainHOST
61:38
All right, and then do you think Iowa gets back into the win column this weekend against Wisconsin?

this season against power for competition.
Spencer WagonHOST
22:07
You look at the fact that Kamari Moulton is now done for the year and you're relying on a banged up LJ Phillips and three guys that have had a few moments, but I think are still, I don't know if unproven is the right word, but maybe have not lived up to what you want them to be or expected them to be in Xavier Williams, Nathan McNeil, and then Brayden Jackson, who again has had some fine moments this season, has had some good special teams plays, had the really big game against Northern Iowa, but there hasn't just been consistent production from the guys you're going to be counting on to go up against this defense that had a really good game last week.
Spencer WagonHOST
22:48
Again, Week-to-week results don't necessarily mean anything.
Spencer WagonHOST
22:52
One thing we said last week, and we said a couple times this season, X team did well running the football against this team, right? Last week it was Purdue.
