Well, Diaghilev commissioned well-known artists at the time to design some of the costumes, and why should they be considered any lesser because they take the form of costumes rather than, you know, paintings? And yet there were, I'm thinking some of the Russian constructivists, some of the women like Goncharova, a lot of her output was in costume design for theater.

Those works don't have the same recognition as her paintings, so th- they are very deeply ingrained prejudices I think.

And dance costumes are particularly interesting in this concept of, you know, the embodied art form because the designers can't just make something that looks beautiful on someone standing still.
