Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum

Sunday, Islanders, Devils, first of two rookie scrimmages.

The next one will be Tuesday at the Islanders practice rink right near the, uh, Nassau Coliseum.

So looking forward to that, the next step in Islanders hockey coming back.

Time now for our Islanders birthday of the day.

We'll host the game.

So the Islanders... played an away playoff game at Nassau Coliseum.

And because it was an away game, it was on Channel 9.

And I remember, I can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning, but I remember Tim Ryan coming on at the beginning of the game.

Don't adjust your sets.

The Islanders are wearing blue because they wore white at home back then.

We are at the Nassau Coliseum, but it is a Blackhawks home game.

So that was really the only time that I saw an Islanders game at the Coliseum and, you know, news highlights on TV and everything.

It was pretty much around a block from where I grew up.

A lot of big acts played there before Nassau Coliseum was built for the Islanders.

But we used to go all the time.

My dad was friends with the owner and he got us ringside tickets and we would, my brother, I and our friends would go every month and It was always like the B-level guys, you know, Andre, Bruno, they were never there.

And it was fun.

We used to go every month and have a ball.

And when they started doing Nassau more, when Hogan came back and it was, he would go to a show, there'd be like 3,000 people.

He came back, you couldn't get into the building.

They're going up against the Blackhawks.

Game one is at the Nassau Coliseum.

Game two was supposed to be at Chicago Stadium.

But there was a conflict.

Bill Torrey, GM of the Islanders, says no. No.

League rules prohibit a neutral site for a playoff game, and they did at that time.

So the game was held at the Nassau Coliseum, but the Blackhawks wore their home jerseys.

The Blackhawks had last change, and they were designated as the home team, even though they were playing in front of fans, rooting for the New York Islanders.

It's ball one.

In the second period, the Nassau Coliseum, the Islanders lead the New York Rangers 5-0.

Swing and a miss.

An Islander victory, and they will clinch the Patrick Division Championship.

Rudy May will be coming up.

Rudy has been over in the American League where they've had the DH the last four years, and I doubt seriously he's had a time at bat in the last four years until today.

In the third period at the Nassau Coliseum, the New York Islanders lead the New York Rangers 7-1 as they near their first Patrick Division crowd.

Two outs and one on, and Rudy May is the batter.

And then he taught me how to drive.

But I don't ever remember going to Shea Stadium or Yankee Stadium or the Nassau Coliseum or Madison Square Garden without my dad having a traveler and a bunch of extras.

And when I learned to drive, like I know I run into other alcoholics.

I dated myself.
