Nashville Now

well, we had, uh, when I started, uh, I started in April of 92 and we had a weekend, my very first weekend.

Uh, we had a Friday, a Saturday, a Sunday, and that Sunday night, I mean, Monday night, We were scheduled to be on Nashville Now.

It was my first weekend.

Oh, my.

So the popularity was at an all-time high.

What were some of the things that you got to do when you look back at those two to three years of, of being with gold city that were just like, wow moments.

Jimmy performed this on an episode of Nashville Now.

And I remember the night I got it to him, got it to Merle out at the Nashville Network one night.

Hank was doing Nashville Now.

And I thought, well,

One particular harbor was finally ready in the last week of September, but Jimmy didn't return to the road until November when he launched a barnstorming tour of the East Coast and the South.

These shows included his second stop on Austin's city limits, recorded in November of 1983.

So this song is representative of that time, so I thought it's apropos to start out with.

It's called I Got a Caribbean Soul I Can Barely Control.

Schmidt toured with Toto in 1982 and with Jimmy Buffett in 1983, 84, and 85 as a member of the Coral Reefer Band.

But Timothy has a much larger part in the history of Jimmy Buffett than just singing background on a few tracks and being a sometimes choral reefer.

At the show at the Timberwolf Amphitheater in 1985, Buffett commented about everyone wearing Hawaiian shirts and parrot heads and how they keep coming back to see his shows, just like deadheads.

Schmidt chimed in, they looked like parrot heads.

Uh, just an incredible accomplishment.

And, um, she was on those, uh, they used to have on, on Saturdays, they used to have these, um, half-hour shows, like, That Nashville Music and Nashville Now, and she was on the one that had Porter Wagner on it.

And she and Porter Wagner, uh, recorded a lot of duets, and that was sort of her introduction to the country music, uh, family and, and, you know, uh, fans.

And, uh, she, she became the biggest star, uh, because she was so talented, uh, but also she was so kind and people loved her.
