the news of the 52 Singaporeans who were arrested and detained in Guangxi over suspected pyramid scheme activities and CNA's coverage of other Singaporeans lured by alleged pyramid scheme linked to investment opportunities in China, more of such accounts are emerging.

They share similar stories of invitations from friends and trusted contacts Trips to Nanning, impressive-sounding investment opportunities, and eventually pressure to put in large sums of money or recruit others.

And sometimes we think we know a pyramid scheme when we see one, but what if it doesn't really look like a scam? And what if the person introducing you to is actually a close friend or a family member? Now, that's really what makes the situation very, very tricky here, Rianto.

Yeah, you know, content creator and fitness instructor has taken to social media to share her own experience of being invited to Nanning to explore an investment opportunity.

We spoke with her earlier to find out who introduced her to the opportunity and whether she would react differently if it were a stranger.

The arrests came as part of a wider crackdown by Chinese authorities, with investigations still ongoing.

The case has put the spotlight on a so-called Nanning scheme, where Singaporeans are pitched investment opportunities and encouraged to recruit others.

Yeah, and CNE's investigation found at least three people here have filed police reports while more than a dozen others experienced or rather shared their experiences with us as well.

Our senior correspondent, Olivia Steong, was part of that investigation.

How are you? You know, since Friday, trying to understand how have reactions been about this news? Have people reached out?

Yeah, so like Haryanto was saying, right, there's been quite a lot of reactions since the story came out.

We've seen many people posting on social media about their own experiences of being approached about this supposed Nanning scheme.

And some also actually contacted me and my teammate, Jonathan Chia, who is a senior producer.

There, there, and there.

That's because I went to Nanning myself back in 2018.

I recently wrote an article about that experience, and somewhat unexpectedly, that article appears to have helped kick off the recent media interest in the story.

So something that happened to me eight years ago suddenly became relevant again, and then the calls started coming in.

Interviews, questions, photographs, and suddenly, boom.

And suddenly, my own Nanning story was everywhere.

Which brings me to something else.

Why am I okay with being named and having my face all over this? You know, because honestly, I find it illogical that victims or people who were approached by these schemes are expected to hide, while people running these operations can seemingly operate in public.

Bilateral trade has topped US$744 billion in the first seven months of this year, up by nearly a quarter and accounting for over 20% of China's total foreign trade.

China ASEAN Expo is scheduled to take place in Nanning later in the month.

More than 2,000 Chinese enterprises and nearly 1,000 ASEAN companies will attend the event in South China.

This is the southwestern Chinese region of Guangxi, where a dam gave way in Hangzhou, east of the regional capital of Nanning.

Persistent heavy rainfall since July 3rd has caused severe flooding.

So you're telling me the city has had plans for the last year to implement a new data center exactly where the fires began, where I just got evacuated yesterday? I don't even know why I'm surprised to find this out.

Perhaps this is some pushback to a lot of chatter that I saw when they released their Blade Battery 2.0 and flash charging, that people said online, "Oh, that's just gonna kill the battery with high temperatures and battery deg, and sure you can charge in five minutes, but it's gonna fry the battery." So what do they do? Well, Yangwang says the production version of its 2026 U7, that's a pure electric sedan, did 30,000 kilometers of testing.

That is 18,600 miles on an endurance test at Nanning in southern China.

They drove the car continuously.

It took eight days, 19 hours and 58 minutes.
