She could have sacrificed herself here as a distraction at the expense of including Karen, of course.

And then how would the rest of the season have played out if we'd lost these people? So Nancy and Jonathan would have essentially been traits Mike, Karen, and Ted get Holly back, but lose Nancy.

And Joyce gets to keep Will, but loses Jonathan.

We also subvert the final girl trope in Killing Nancy.

Steve would lose the two women he loves the most, Robin and Nancy, which would have been kind of annoying.

But then maybe we lose Steve in the finale, and then all of a sudden the fallout from that loss...

Yeah.
