N. C. Wyeth

I can't really pronounce his name well, but his work I've really been inspired by this past year.

And I actually went to also a museum in May, and there was a lot of paintings from NC Wyeth, and he has been an inspiration as well for me.

So really, I get a lot of inspiration from different artists, I would say.

Okay.

Do you feel like that helped you at all when you were painting your pieces? Or do you feel like you, even without the knowledge of Arthurian legends and King Arthur and the Knights and stuff, given your specific pieces you painted, do you think that you would have done the same great work regardless of your knowledge of the Arthurian legends, you feel like it helped you at all?

I think it's a mix, I would say.

Like there are certain artists, I think I mentioned him before here, but NC Wyeth, he did a painting of the Green Knight and it's one of my favorite pieces of his.

And I really am inspired by the use of colors that he has, as well as the textures that he's able to achieve in his pieces.

Old, like, art by Mobius, and, like, I mean, that's all there.

Norman Rockwell's section, because he has a huge collection of Norman Rockwell's and NC Wyeth's.

Dang.

Those are all there.

So did you guys feel the same way when you looked at this book? Did you get that cinematic feel? Did you see James Dean when the camera went over to yes

and he was so beautiful compared to Wolverine I had real issues with the way they drew Logan with the hair wisps like going halfway down his back and he comes off as sort of some NC Wyeth pirate from Treasure Island or something he's got ruddy cheeks and ruddy nose like he's been just on the booze way too much But I did get the aspects.

A lot of 50s, they're driving in really classic cars and wearing old school wayfarers.

I did have issues with the setup because I read extensively about Chernobyl.

And similarly, his art collection, which is spectacularly beautiful, the reason the museum is called the Museum of Narrative Art is that the opposite of abstract, every painting there tells a story.

He's got a huge collection of comic book and comic strip art because those are pictures that tell stories he's got norman rockwell's maxfield parishes lion deckers uh nc wyeth that's the father of andrew wyeth who was an illustrator of books like robin hood i mean and king arthur just unbelievable beautiful wonderful wonderful museum everybody should go there

Wow.

Okay.

Both these things can be true because the other sides are so heavy.

The Frazettas, the Leyendeckers, the, the, the, the N.C. Wyeths, the, the Banksys, okay? Uh, Norman Rockwell.

But we all agreed if there was one piece that we wanted to walk out with under our arm, okay? Like Bernie Wrightson famously created these "Frankenstein" portfolio p- pieces back again when I was a kid.

I, I wanna say '78, '79, '80.

Um, uh, [clears throat] had, had to get out there.

Had, had to, had to see it from above.

Uh, [clears throat] the N.C. Wyeths, uh, and if you're not familiar, W-Y-E-T-H.

It, it...

But there comes a point where you want to do what you do work.

And I don't know really when that transition occurred, but my style now is, you know, I'm hugely influenced by the early American illustrators and then some of the, you know, well contemporary john singer sargent is my favorite um artist he'd probably be an illustrator today um but you know maxfield parish nc wyeth Howard Pyle, Schoonover, A.B. Wenzel, all of those great golden age illustrators.

They were very painterly.

And so that's what I consider myself is it's not really impressionistic.

That's why I want to try painting to see what the old portrait people did.

And I love Andrew Wyeth and Rockwell and Sargent and NC Wyeth.

And I want to just try what they do and capture moments in a more present way.

So yeah, that's maybe an exhibition here and there, hopefully.
