EP 631: What We're Overlooking About Chronic Pain After 40
J
24:09Jannine KrauseHOST
You're not speaking out like what you say and what you need to say.
J

And so My point here is that is it possible that the thyroid decreases on its function when there's not enough circulation in the neck? Acupressure, myofascial release can really help this area.
J
24:26Jannine KrauseHOST
And I notice it over and over again.
J
24:27Jannine KrauseHOST
Like, think about it this way, too.
J
26:50Jannine KrauseHOST
Let's get into how we
J
26:52Jannine KrauseHOST
can manually help release some of this tension in the body because it's incredibly important to think about boosting that circulation.
J
27:00Jannine KrauseHOST
And with manual myofascial release, acupressure, tapping, whatever it may be, all of these things are stimuli, things that get the cells moving, the circulation to the area.

Yeah.
U

I completely agree.
U
9:02UnuHOST
Something that we get taught in myofascial release is without awareness, there's no choice.
U
9:08UnuHOST
And oftentimes we just do these things out of habit and there's not a conscious effort to really understand or even feel it.
U
9:16UnuHOST
And so I know that there are times in my life when I definitely thought that I was right about something and I might have even felt passionately about it, but it's not until I took a step back and I was able to say, hey, was that... really appropriate or especially when I get triggered I think it's really easy to blame somebody else and I think in the moments that I've sought out whether it's counseling or therapy there is that part of you that's like I feared whether it's judgment or I didn't want to take accountability that stopped me from being fully honest in that moment and then of course The counselor, the therapist is going to tell me things based on only the things that I've shared without really knowing the inside of it, you know, when there's conflicts and how I respond to that.

Yeah.

What's interesting to me is a lot of people have sort of misinterpreted my journey and they'll sort of quote me or at least refer to me saying, you know, I left Myofascial Release because I didn't agree with the narratives.
W
4:55Walt FritzGUEST
And that's not quite correct.
W
4:57Walt FritzGUEST
It wasn't until after I left that I started disagreeing with the narratives.

In 1957, Carl Rogers released a paper.
W
35:41Walt FritzGUEST
Carl Rogers, psychotherapist, right? He gave a talk at a psychotherapy conference in 1957 that, based on historical accounts, got him ostracized from his profession.
W
35:52Walt FritzGUEST
Now, as I was ostracized from the myofascial release profession, I immediately had alliance with Carl Rogers, right? But anyway, what Carl did was in 1957, the prevailing mindset in mental therapy was the choice of the right modality was key to psychological change.
W
36:11Walt FritzGUEST
Now, does that sound a little bit like our industries where you need to pick the right modality, the right tool to fix this specific problem, right? And what Carl Rogers did in this talk was essentially said the choice of the right intervention is less important than the relationship you build.
