Mycoplasma genitalium

I don't feel like I'm more scared of MGM and heart herpes than fucking HIV, honestly.

I contracted Mgen last year.

No, well, it was a year and a half ago, but the symptoms for me was my urethra was itchy for like two days.

And I went and got tested, tested negative from a usual panel.

So I forgot about it.

And then six months go by and I went and got tested for a new partner.

And I saw a TikTok creator named Peaches talk about Mgen and say they're an adult sex worker.

And so they contracted it during a scene and they were like really upset about it.

They're testing for chlamydia, HIV, syphilis, trichomonas.

They're testing for Mgen.

They're testing for hepatitis C.

And then we're also doing anal and oral swabs for chlamydia and gonorrhea.

But I am trying to point out that when you go get STI tested, if your testing does not include oral and anal swabs, then you've missed more infections than you've detected, and at that point, you really have to ask yourself, "What was the point of getting tested in the first place?" So that would be the first thing that I would say.

The second thing would be, so a couple of other infections that are almost always missed but are extraordinarily common, one of which is Mycoplasma genitalium, which is a sexually transmitted infection.

It's a bacteria.

And the other one is Trichomonas, which is a parasite.

Yeah.

We are already seeing highly resistant strains of gonorrhea, and Mycoplasma genitalium is notoriously difficult to eradicate due to macrolide resistance.

While chlamydia has remained largely susceptible to doxycycline, the evolutionary pressure is constant.

It's only a matter of time.
