My Tennessee Mountain Home

[smacks lips] Uh, before we chat a bit about Tim Curry, I wanna know, like, what are your favorite Dolly songs?

My number one is "My Tennessee Mountain Home." I l- it's, you know, such a, like, folksy Appalachian song, and, um, at Dollywood, there is a recreation of Dolly's childhood home that you can visit.

Right.

And so I just, like, every time I listen to that song, I see that in my mind and think about ... her roots and where she came from, and I, I just find it really fascinating.

In fact, this little song right here kind of just sums up what a typical day might have been like.

In my Tennessee mountain home, life is as peaceful as a baby's sigh.

course now that was a typical day And I have a lot of songs that I grew up with in my childhood that I wrote after I was grown.

And a lot of people ask me, well, do you have a favorite song that you've written out of all those songs? I said, yeah, I do.

wouldn't expect people to.

talk about this because people are going crazy over her bangs and uh just how different her face looks uh but first uh the university of tennessee debuted a new fourth quarter album on uh anthem excuse me on saturday choosing dolly parton's my tennessee mountain home to honor her great

song yeah

this is really sweet the song replaces morgan wallen's the way i talk at the voles fourth quarter uh tradition which have you been to a voles game

This is going to be good.

And a tribute especially fitting because Dolly grew up in East Tennessee.

And my Tennessee mountain home, that song, celebrates her childhood roots there.

By the way, the Vols crushing Furman 56-9, making for a pretty perfect game with Dolly's song as that new anthem.

And I wanted to talk about two of her songs that we can settle into and maybe listen to this weekend.

The first song is my Tennessee mountain home and And that is her love letter to the place she came from.

She writes about sitting on the front porch with the legs sticking up, leaning against a wall, watching children play with the June bugs on a string and the lightning bugs or fireflies in the air.

It is a song about the particular piece of a life rooted in place, in a family, in the rhythm of ordinary days.

My dad couldn't read and write, so I wanted to do something to make him feel part of something special.

Tennessee Mountain Home, again, is just one of my favorites because I live in there.

Do I Ever Cross Your Mind? That's a great, I can't remember who she's singing with, but it's a great like banjo picking number song.
