I don't think so.
Jason WaltonHOST
49:47
My Dying Bride doesn't have any songs about cowboys, do they? No.
Jason WaltonHOST
49:51
No, they should.
Jason WaltonHOST
49:51
I mean, they might later.

10 MINS LATER

music
Jason WaltonHOST
59:38
yeah yeah check it out it's really really cool stuff um you know years ago i mean what what was it like 90s david you sent me that one track and every now and then i still get that one track in my head i mean and it's been decades you know so that was a different vibe that was kind of like my dying bride meets sopra turnus type of type of jam.
Jason WaltonHOST
60:01
Yeah.
Derek HamptonHOST
69:45
and I...
Derek HamptonHOST
69:48
I remember we were also listening to My Dying Bride.
Derek HamptonHOST
69:51
Okay.
Derek HamptonHOST
69:52
At about the same time as we were listening to this.
TonyHOST
74:25
How do you guys get involved with Firebox Records?
Matti MäkeläGUEST
74:30
um so back in those days there was kind of like a huge renaissance of funeral doom if you can call it that the doom metal calm forms were a huge part of it uh lots of lots of new bands uh like forming uh all taking influence from the stuff from the 90s well mostly like the finnish masters of skepticism and fairytale and then of course For us, it was also the American bands like Dusk or Australian bands like Disembowelment or UK bands like, well, the early My Dying Bride stuff or the first Cathedral demo or... stuff like that.
Matti MäkeläGUEST
75:09
But yeah, in the early 2000s, the whole genre has kind of this revival, lots of bands forming.
Matti MäkeläGUEST
75:16
And I think the internet had quite a lot to do with it because it connected a lot of people with similar interests.
Martin PopoffHOST
9:45
There was a lot of excitement around this band as a as kind of a pastiche band.
Martin PopoffHOST
9:50
Now that I think of it as kind of a more conservative version of of Pantera, My Dying Bride.
Martin PopoffHOST
9:57
I remember lots of actually My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost Together as part of that, you know, mid 90s doom thing that was happening in England and a certain specific part of England.
Martin PopoffHOST
10:08
But My Dying Bride even supported Dio.
Martin PopoffHOST
10:11
And I remember that was a fond memory running the magazine when... deal came and did a, did a little bit of a meet and greet signing for staff.
Martin PopoffHOST
10:19
And I was part of that.
Martin PopoffHOST
10:20
Um, although I wasn't staff at the HMV in the basement and my dying bride actually did a, um, you know, Tim had them put on a little, uh, a little showcase, a little concert in the store.
Martin PopoffHOST
10:31
Um, so that was really cool.
RayHOST
25:07
I think part of it, so it's very, so yeah, I said it was very sad, but it's lyrically very sad in a way that I don't think metal ever normally is.
RayHOST
25:18
Yeah, My Dying Bride, whatever.
RayHOST
25:20
There's plenty of doom around it.
RayHOST
25:22
Whatever, My
PhilHOST
25:22
Dying Bride, whatever.
PhilHOST
25:23
No,
RayHOST
25:23
no, I love My Dying Bride, but...
RayHOST
25:26
But yes, yes, they're sad songs, but they're like, it's often about like, you know, death or something dramatic or, but this is, it tends to be like relationship breakdown type things, which sounds a bit emo when you say it like that.
Alan AverillHOST
23:36
So there you go.
Alan AverillHOST
23:39
We also announced a show next Halloween in the Olympia Theater in Dublin with Towards the Sinister, the, uh, members of the original My Dying Bride doing all of the first couple of My Dying Bride, uh, numbers, and Mourning Beloveth playing the great Solan Sulcus album.
Alan AverillHOST
23:56
Um, and tickets are flying out.
Alan AverillHOST
23:59
It's absolutely outrageous.
Martin PopoffHOST
8:17
It never got a certification, but there was a lot of excitement around this band as kind of a pastiche band, now that I think of it, as kind of a more conservative version of Pantera.
Martin PopoffHOST
8:32
My Dying Bride, I remember lots of...
Martin PopoffHOST
8:34
Actually, My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost together as part of that mid-'90s doom thing that was happening in England, in a certain specific part of England.
Martin PopoffHOST
8:43
But My Dying Bride even supported Dio.
Martin PopoffHOST
8:46
And I remember that was a fond memory running the magazine when Dio came and did a little bit of a meet and greet signing for staff.
Martin PopoffHOST
8:54
And I was part of that, although I wasn't staff at the HMV in the basement.
Martin PopoffHOST
8:58
And My Dying Bride actually did a, you know, Tim had them put on a little showcase, a little concert in the store.
Martin PopoffHOST
9:07
So that was really cool.
TonyHOST
10:04
a bit of the Peaceful Three and, like, the Dark Metal kind of, like, bloodline, for sure.
Jon RosenthalGUEST
10:09
Yeah, My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Anathema.
Jon RosenthalGUEST
10:12
Yeah, even Anathema.
Jon RosenthalGUEST
10:13
It's all there.
Captain UnturnedCORRESPONDENT
20:33
I'm like a proud dad over here.
Kevin WilliamsHOST
20:35
Dead Venus, and My Dying Bride.
Kevin WilliamsHOST
20:38
So those were some infamous goth metal bands.
Kevin WilliamsHOST
20:41
Tonight, we're going to hear from maybe some more obscure bands.
JimmyHOST
35:39
It's weird
Nick RuskellGUEST
35:39
... weirdly denying bands that I liked, like My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost.
Nick RuskellGUEST
35:43
Like, I said, "No, absolutely not." And it was like, well, probably somewhere, but-
JimmyHOST
35:47
[laughs]
JimmyHOST
36:08
Yeah
Nick RuskellGUEST
36:08
...
Nick RuskellGUEST
36:08
there was a few places where, like, the idea of My Dying Bride was like absolute posers.
Nick RuskellGUEST
36:12
Like, it was one down from Cradle of Filth in the sort of cradle pose.
