Same here
C
16:19Cody BonnetteGUEST
... those, quote-unquote, "secular bands" would lead me to, like, the, the Tooth & Nail world, which would be, like, uh, Value Pack, obviously MxPx.
C
16:30Cody BonnetteGUEST
And then I started to like also like ska music, 'cause at that time in the late '90s, that was, like, really popping, you know? Um, so The Supertones, uh, Five Iron Frenzy, Squad Five-O, you know, these are just to name-
J
16:47Jeremy Alan GouldHOST
Yeah
#45- Jeremy Alan Gould
J
7:21Jeremy Alan GouldGUEST
um but everyone was so kind and so great or giving and willing to let me use places and stuff and and of course i obviously paid for it but it's just like a lot of community uh in in that regard they were just very wanting live music you know which was really cool yeah um and i actually used um another venue called the cotillion which was like a really big name there probably a 2000 cap room and i wound up doing two shows there um one of them was under oath which obviously a lot of people know Um, and that was like the biggest show I ever booked and I was just lucky to be part of that.
J
7:57Jeremy Alan GouldGUEST
And then there was another one that wasn't as big, but MXPX was on the bill.
J
8:01Jeremy Alan GouldGUEST
So it was like a lot of cool opportunity to just be involved in something like, you know, bands that influenced me in some way, shape or form.
J
8:08Jeremy Alan GouldGUEST
So yeah.
21 MINS LATER
J
28:54Jeremy Alan GouldGUEST
So I thought it was kind of a cool name because it really fit the podcast in a lot of different ways.
J
29:00Jeremy Alan GouldGUEST
And so I started that, changed the name, and then it started kind of some traction and had Sean on pretty early, which was such a big deal for me.
J
29:11Jeremy Alan GouldGUEST
And then I got the artwork done by John Neeson, who did the Tooth & Nail logo and the MXPX logo, which I thought was... yeah i mean i was like look i'll pay you like let's i want to do something incredible he got on the phone with me for like two and a half hours talked to me like you know you know kind of try to bring up things that and it was just like an incredible conversation and then he like sent me three things and the first thing i saw was that's it i love it i'm absolutely in love with this and that's been the logo and so i did that because of the history of it all I just thought it would be cool to be incorporated in some way.
J
29:48Jeremy Alan GouldGUEST
Yeah.

Like, what's a rock band gonna do? What are they gonna do to be rebellious?
T
44:36Travis VoxnessHOST
Well, let me say this that's making your point too is I know, like, on Warped Tour right now, like, bands, like punk bands from the '90s, like MxPx and like, um, uh, and, and like Goldfinger, some of these like ska bands that were huge, Reel Big Fish, I mean, they're bigger now or as big as they ever were.
T
44:53Travis VoxnessHOST
Like, they're back on.
D

Relient K: Forget And Not Slow Down (feat Matt Hoopes) | S1E6
A
63:04Addison CohenHOST
Um, is there, is there like intentionally a heartbeat underneath that track?
M
63:11Matt HoopesGUEST
Yeah, it is that you'll it it's you know, it's just kind of like if you want to go back and listen to like MXP X or no effects or Slick shoes or like, you know bands that we listen to they're kind of do this like pop punk thing Newfound Glory does it a lot? We call it like the punk beat but where it's it's his beat and it just sounds like a blast beat at first and It just sounds like, like the drums are just doing like, you know, it's just like, yeah, just like hit, hit, hit.
M
63:44Matt HoopesGUEST
And when you hear it more, you kind of hear this other rhythm, you know, where you first hear this, like, it just sounds like up and downs, you know, and then you kind of hear it more.
M
63:53Matt HoopesGUEST
And it's more of like this.
