Mutations

I, I have been such a Beck fan since my New York days.

Listening to that, uh, Mutations album.

Odelay.

Uh, there, there was another one.

But after the success of Odelay, he could have repeated that formula, but he doesn't.

He makes '98's Mutations.

Made Mutations, which was this interesting experiment in making records the way that y- that people used to make records in the '60s and '70s or even before that, which was you just crank out a whole bunch of material, uh, almost live to tape.

He had two weeks of studio time in Ocean Way Studios, which is where Pet Sounds was, was recorded and, um, Frank Sinatra's That Was a Very Good Year.

I mean, a lot of amazing recordings were laid down in Ocean Way, which no longer exists.

Two weeks, it wasn't that long.

But, uh, some of them were tracks he'd had laying around, some of them were new.

And Mutations was my entry point as a new album.
