Mustard

You're not going to just rototill it right away because, again, you're doing something for the roots.

Another thing you can do for nematodes in your garden too, by the way, is to rototill under a mustard crop.

Mustard, you know how it has that strong pungent smell? Well, it also has some chemicals in it, natural chemicals, that when they are put under the soil, chopped in, and they decay away, they release.

It's almost like a plant fumigating its own soil.

They release stuff that kills nematodes.

Kodumai ilai.

In Tamil, we call them kodume ilay.

Let's break that down slowly.

Mizuna, same thing, grew that, grows quite vigorously, quite quickly, and does run to seed relatively quickly next spring, but you'll still have had a good harvest between now and then.

Mustard is another one, same thing with it.

Spinach, another one.

And you can do a couple of sowings of your herbs as well.

in terms of veggies? A lot of the weeds that we'd weed whack out of our backyards, there's a ton of nutritional value.

Mustard, dandelion, for example, is actually a very healthy green.

Phenotops, which we often chop off and throw away and cook the bulb.

Those are all very high in micronutrients and polyphenols.

Collards and kale are known for needing high nitrogen and that can be in the form of ammonia sulfate or calcium nitrate like that to help them a little bit more.

Mustard and turnips.

Now these are known more for higher nitrogen than any other greens I know of.

You definitely want to supplement something like ammonia sulfate or calcium nitrate in addition to a balanced fertilizer to pop
