Murphy Cooper

I think what we always needed under Cleverley was a goalkeeper who's more proactive, who's better at coming out of his box and mopping things up, better with his feet.

And so we signed Murphy Cooper, who, yeah, he's made one or two bad mistakes, but...

I think it's been just an unbelievable upgrade in that position quietly.

I think, you know, the way he manages his area and sort of, you know, gets on the front foot right from the back of the pitch is really impressive.

uh same as i said last week to be honest can everyone have said anybody goes direct against us we're in trouble.

It happened before, first minute, we played it straight back to the goalkeeper, Murphy Cooper, who used to play for us.

He pumped it straight out middle, but won a second, and he smacked it straight in the top corner.

Um, and didn't really need to create a lot more and, and we just made it a bit of a non-event.

Um, first goal, obviously straight from the kickoff to go back to Murphy Cooper, really good long ball, um, which I think c- you know, can be a bit of a weak area of his, but it was a very good long ball into the middle.

Real scrappy battle from Will Evans, you know, didn't quite fully win the header, but competed enough that the Barnsley defender was forced just to head it back out to Harvey White, who in truth, a bit of a mistake, bit of an overhit first touch, but thank goodness it did 'cause if he found that first touch cleanly we wouldn't have had then what followed.

So then Wes Harding gets the ball and you're starting to see the counter-press from the Barnsley attacker.

I think you could really see him digging in and doing what he had to for the team.

Um, yeah, defenders, you know, snuffed everything out.

Um, Murphy Cooper, and this is statistically true, this is not an exaggeration, did not have to make one single save all game.

Um, they didn't have one single shot on target.

Murphy Cooper goes the right way, almost gets a fingertip to it, but it's a very good penalty.

It's right in the corner.

It's not when he keeps saving that one.

We then made a few subs, which I thought, could that be a little bit on the defensive side? Hartridge came on and I think Mateus Ross as well for a couple of attacking players, one of the A little bit concerned he might be sitting in too deep.

But to be fair, no.

After a very good long ball from Murphy Cooper, Hartridge won the second ball and got it to Pepple.

But he got a bit of a scrap, if I remember rightly, with the keeper.

And eventually they're going to score one just for a bit of bad luck, a bounce off the player.

Like the Alex Mitchell one, it's probably going straight into Murphy Cooper's arms.

I did briefly wonder if Murphy Cooper could have given Alex Mitchell a shout to get out of the way, but...

I think it's a bit harsh and I think probably even if he does, Mitchell's response time is not going to quite be quick enough to actually get out of the way.

He as a defender will always try and block the shot.

So if the benefit of hindsight and a night's sleep, I do think the Murphy Cooper one could be put down to bad luck rather than him not shouting quickly enough for Alex Mitchell.

argyle means you've just taken away what was going to be my killer punch line and i was going to say that was a performance worthy of ian foster to hand back to joe but there we go i'll have to end on something else now you said it for me mr beams thank you but i do think it was a performance worthy of ian foster we just treated them with far too much reverence far too much respect and when we actually got the board out and played we we were a good team we weren't great even then you know there were moments whereby we had the ball in good areas and completely stuffed it up dear old Will Evans, not that I like single out individuals too much, managing to have four men unmarked and find none of them was a particular low light of that.

But we had, not the only one, we had other opportunities where we were wasteful, but then we did late in the game, forced chances.
