Episode 156- Plymouth Argyle Preview.
J

I think what we always needed under Cleverley was a goalkeeper who's more proactive, who's better at coming out of his box and mopping things up, better with his feet.
J
14:54JonGUEST
And so we signed Murphy Cooper, who, yeah, he's made one or two bad mistakes, but...
J
14:58JonGUEST
I think it's been just an unbelievable upgrade in that position quietly.
J
15:02JonGUEST
I think, you know, the way he manages his area and sort of, you know, gets on the front foot right from the back of the pitch is really impressive.

uh same as i said last week to be honest can everyone have said anybody goes direct against us we're in trouble.
R

It happened before, first minute, we played it straight back to the goalkeeper, Murphy Cooper, who used to play for us.
R
4:05RobGUEST
He pumped it straight out middle, but won a second, and he smacked it straight in the top corner.

A lad called Oliver Iroh, he's on loan from Spurs, he was good all game, to be honest.

Andrew, actually, before you carry on, can I just come back to you about what you've just said? Because on West London Sport, they were talking about the goalkeeper situation from last year.
D
19:39Dunstan BentleyPANELIST
And I think it was Ian McCulloch that said it, that Murphy Cooper had that ability.
D

If he made a mistake, he got on with it.

Whereas Joe Walsh tends to dwell a lot more on his mistakes.

On keeping clean sheets, which Murphy Cooper...
M

Oh, actually, I've got an interesting one for this as well.

Murphy Cooper, who we've been very pleased about after recent games, but it's really important, TC says, home form and defensive records are what I bang on about for long-term success.
M
47:12MikeHOST
Those two boxes were ticked last weekend.
M
47:16MikeHOST
On Blackpool, TC said they've had a mixed bag, two of each.
M
47:25MikeHOST
They've got some good technicians in the team, some of which we've mentioned already.
M

On injuries, as we reported earlier, I've had the luxury of naming the same team last weekend after the Doncaster win, and I have the option to do so again with Jack McKenzie returning back to training.

S

Um, and didn't really need to create a lot more and, and we just made it a bit of a non-event.
S
3:23Sam DownPANELIST
Um, first goal, obviously straight from the kickoff to go back to Murphy Cooper, really good long ball, um, which I think c- you know, can be a bit of a weak area of his, but it was a very good long ball into the middle.
S
3:35Sam DownPANELIST
Real scrappy battle from Will Evans, you know, didn't quite fully win the header, but competed enough that the Barnsley defender was forced just to head it back out to Harvey White, who in truth, a bit of a mistake, bit of an overhit first touch, but thank goodness it did 'cause if he found that first touch cleanly we wouldn't have had then what followed.
S
3:53Sam DownPANELIST
So then Wes Harding gets the ball and you're starting to see the counter-press from the Barnsley attacker.
S
8:08Sam DownPANELIST
I think you could really see him digging in and doing what he had to for the team.
S
8:12Sam DownPANELIST
Um, yeah, defenders, you know, snuffed everything out.
S
8:16Sam DownPANELIST
Um, Murphy Cooper, and this is statistically true, this is not an exaggeration, did not have to make one single save all game.
S
8:23Sam DownPANELIST
Um, they didn't have one single shot on target.

So that's good to see, right? So some learning from some poor kickoffs where we conceded in a couple of goals recently, just...

back to back to Cooper and into their into their territory right but Chris Julio will get an assist for the goal but Iroh had a lot to do right so where are you where are you on that I mean it's good to know they drilled it but I'm assuming we don't plan for 25 yard world is in the 20 seconds I'm sure that's not the drill although it's a good time to buy a ticket it's it's almost
C

like it makes me wonder what What do you try and do if it's not that, right? So the other options are play it back and play it around a bit, which is safe.
C
8:50Chris AllenPANELIST
There's a sort of weird trend that you used to think was kind of that 365 sponsor that just put it in the stands as far up the pitch as possible, right? But there is a logic that you put them.

And I think the experience of players like Backenson, only 27, by the way, I thought probably older.
S
30:41Sam RobertsGUEST
And then also Harding, only 29, by the way, but I thought looked like a more, you know, experienced campaigner.
S
30:47Sam RobertsGUEST
these players are giving that level of confidence and I also wanted to shout out Murphy Cooper who I think also did a great job of commanding the box and sort of organizing his defense and I think that that again having someone behind you that has that confidence you know obviously Mark's not here to give us the goalkeeper insight but I think that's that probably has a big a big impact as well so yeah never never panicked there were some chances but it felt managed out by the team
T

And I think a shout-out must have been to Murphy Cooper as well, not having to go sleep halfway through the games, didn't have much to do tonight.
M
29:19MikeHOST
So do I want to bring an element of a slight negative or I'm going to? I've still got some doubts on Murphy Cooper.
M
29:28MikeHOST
And to be fair, I think the kicking out as well.
M

Why is it so hard? And I'm not I don't mean to be sort of.
Watts A Second Half! Doncaster Rovers 2-3 Plymouth Argyle
S

Can't argue with that being given.
S
5:57Sam DownPANELIST
Murphy Cooper goes the right way, almost gets a fingertip to it, but it's a very good penalty.
S
6:01Sam DownPANELIST
It's right in the corner.
S
6:02Sam DownPANELIST
It's not when he keeps saving that one.
S
8:07Sam DownPANELIST
We then made a few subs, which I thought, could that be a little bit on the defensive side? Hartridge came on and I think Mateus Ross as well for a couple of attacking players, one of the A little bit concerned he might be sitting in too deep.
S
8:18Sam DownPANELIST
But to be fair, no.
S
8:20Sam DownPANELIST
After a very good long ball from Murphy Cooper, Hartridge won the second ball and got it to Pepple.
S
8:29Sam DownPANELIST
But he got a bit of a scrap, if I remember rightly, with the keeper.
The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Greens: Leicester City 2-0 Plymouth Argyle
S
6:25Sam DownPANELIST
And eventually they're going to score one just for a bit of bad luck, a bounce off the player.
S
6:28Sam DownPANELIST
Like the Alex Mitchell one, it's probably going straight into Murphy Cooper's arms.
S
6:32Sam DownPANELIST
I did briefly wonder if Murphy Cooper could have given Alex Mitchell a shout to get out of the way, but...
S
6:38Sam DownPANELIST
I think it's a bit harsh and I think probably even if he does, Mitchell's response time is not going to quite be quick enough to actually get out of the way.
S
6:44Sam DownPANELIST
He as a defender will always try and block the shot.
S
6:46Sam DownPANELIST
So if the benefit of hindsight and a night's sleep, I do think the Murphy Cooper one could be put down to bad luck rather than him not shouting quickly enough for Alex Mitchell.
S
6:58Sam DownPANELIST
argyle means you've just taken away what was going to be my killer punch line and i was going to say that was a performance worthy of ian foster to hand back to joe but there we go i'll have to end on something else now you said it for me mr beams thank you but i do think it was a performance worthy of ian foster we just treated them with far too much reverence far too much respect and when we actually got the board out and played we we were a good team we weren't great even then you know there were moments whereby we had the ball in good areas and completely stuffed it up dear old Will Evans, not that I like single out individuals too much, managing to have four men unmarked and find none of them was a particular low light of that.
S
7:34Sam DownPANELIST
But we had, not the only one, we had other opportunities where we were wasteful, but then we did late in the game, forced chances.
