Murktide Regent

Um, things are getting more ...

Like, I, I think Murktide Regent is a bit odd to include at the moment actually.

I think that's not stock, and it's more normal-

Um, the one interesting point about specifically Chris's deck is, uh, there's no Quan- or there's no, um, Murktide Regents.

And I do really like Murktide Regent in the deck, and if I was playing, I'd probably play one or two of them, probably two, because a lot of times you get to the end game point where you have all the cards you could ever want.

Uh, your opponent is not dead, though.

That doesn't win the game by drawing all of the cards.

But, um, you do have to actually deal damage, and if your opponent has, like, a Karakas or something, uh, your Tamiyos, your Felidas don't work really well.

Uh, they may answer your four Quantum Riddlers with some Source of Plowshares, and you're, you don't have win conditions.

So I really like getting to the point in the game where I can play Murktide Regent into second Murktide Regent, force their removal spell, and kill them in two turns just to really turn the corner really quickly.

Uh, the same thing in the, in the bean stack too.

Et on va amortir le card discard advantage que procurent ces cartes en piochant avec Frog.

He did a whole hour-long debrief about his deck, the decisions leading into the way he constructed it, the various games that were won and lost.

He placed a lot of emphasis on Murktide Regent out of the board, saving him a bunch of times as something people weren't prepped for against his deck, and also pointed out that he thinks the format's in a really good place.

very diverse, lots of different powerful decks, no clear number one, although Druid Combo was mentioned as potentially filling that slot.

Yeah, there's a lot of fun and degenerate things to do, which is always what you want out of a healthy format.

yeah um What was the other one? Oh, the other creature that we missed to talk about was Murktide Regent.

Murktide Regent's been steadily trending down, Phil.

It was 47 two cycles ago.

Last cycle, it was 38, and now it's at 33.

And by scrappy, what we mean is small things, small effects, knickknacking each other back and forth.

Like we're not talking about Show and Tell or Doomsday or even Murktide Regent right now.

We're talking about the number one most played deck is these low-to-the-ground Dimir Moonshadow decks.

Dimir Tempo is actually a Tempo deck now.

And those sort of decks are out there.

And if you're going to be the air quotes tempo deck from six months ago, days is going to get pretty bad at some point in those games.

Wasteland is going to get pretty bad at some point in those games, especially if you're trying to go back and forth one for one for a while until you cast a Murktide Regent.

They're just going to plow that and move on.
