Murder of Botham Jean

We, the jury, unanimously find the defendant, Amber Geiger, guilty of murder.

The former Dallas police officer, now a convicted killer, a year after she walked into the wrong apartment, a floor above her, shooting Botham Jean, who was eating ice cream and watching a movie inside his home.

His family celebrating the verdict while Amber Geiger was visibly shaken.

The jury's decision comes after seven days of arguments and evidence.

I know a lot of things happen in this world, so we might have forgotten about that case, but I just wanted to refresh your memory, okay? Amber Geiger claimed she thought she was entering her own apartment.

She said she mistook Bolton John for an intruder.

Imagine that, okay? You're in your own home doing absolutely nothing wrong, and somebody walks into your apartment, mistakes you for an intruder, and kills you, okay? There is absolutely nothing Bolton could have done differently in that situation to still be alive, except not be at home.

Geiger claimed she went into an unlocked door on the wrong floor of her apartment building, thinking it was her own.

There, she saw her neighbor, 26-year-old Botham Jean.

Amber Geiger was convicted of murdering 26-year-old Botham Jean in 2018 and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Court papers say the 38-year-old Geiger was granted parole on Thursday after serving seven years.

The night of the shooting, Geiger thought a man was in her apartment when instead she had entered his apartment, which was situated in the exact same position as hers in the complex just one floor above.
