Murchison River

They died.

They wanted their ashes spread over the Murchison River during mustering.

So, "Oh, well, we'll do that.

I know what we'll do.

They're thinking, "What do you reckon, Woody? You like this area? This is a good spot." "Okay." Open the window, and they, they got the, um, the little packet of ashes, and they get it ready near the window and open it up.

But not being very experienced with, with aeroplanes, all that happens is the bloody ashes just get all blown around the cab.

So old Clarry that really liked the Murchison River didn't quite get to the Murchison River.

He more or less lived in the cab of that 172 for the next 20 years, was the story around, [laughs] around these parts.

Do you think you could paint me a picture of Wolgarong?

Wolgarong's, um, 110,000 hectares or 330,000 acres of scrub, malga scrub, rangelands we call it, with the Murchison River running through the, the northernmost three paddocks, which is different country because you get the white gum trees and the floodplain and a river channel winding way, its way through, with some permanent pools in it, but mainly dry in the summer.

And the rest of it, there's, there's country that's down near the south end that's all saltbush and floodplain for the Greenough River.

And then there's hilly bits, not big hills, but kind of we call them ranges.

It's all desert-adapted plants and some beautiful rivers there.

Like, I think it ac- it's actually the Murchison River there.

I remember crossing it just before sunset on my way in there and had some nice trees along the banks.

Kinda really, you know, it's desert country.
