Munster Senior Hurling Championship

Well, I suppose my godfather, when they died, was one like to just, you know, tell me what to do with my brother Paddy.

And Peck Herne as well now in the school, like if he went to a Munster Championship match and he saw something classy being done, when we'd go to school the following day, he'd bring in a hurley and he'd demonstrate what he saw happening.

And Padraig would go back on in the tick and scatter off at the very same.

And I guess when there's big match days across the road from us here, you know, being in there is a wonderful feeling.

But I mean, your job, Ambrose... carries a lot of responsibility, particularly if it is a big, you know, Munster Championship match with 20,000 plus people in there.

You know, the paint and the power wash and all the general work.

There's a lot of responsibility to make sure the ground is looking its best and is ready for a crowd of that size.

surprising that it would happen given that any junior team worth their salt nowadays has a couple of lads doing stats and the timing of it just before half time it's a perfect opportunity to get it sorted with the ref and make sure everyone's on the same page and when you have a scoreboard and you know you have a ref two linesmen four umpires you know it's the kind of thing you know that isn't too difficult to make sure everyone is up to speed on but these things happen they do I look like

the last couple of years about the 21s as well there were two different games we had where there was a situation where the referee added on a point for the opponents that should have gone to us now in the 21 game I think we lost by whatever we lost by 8 we lost by 6 it didn't really matter we were out either way and I think I spoke to the ref afterwards he actually did amend it to be fair just to get I said look definitely when I showed him exactly the time it was at another was a league game it didn't matter at all it was one of the last league games for scoring difference didn't come into it it didn't matter for ourselves or Aaron's own it was the team we were playing it was irrelevant but it was a case of and it's so easy for the ref to do it because he's doing it quickly the puck outs are so fast you know same with kick outs now they're

And with Mackie, it's almost the inverse of it, that one would have probably been enough.

If Mackie had just won that one and they kind of came close, won a few Munsters and everything else, I still think in Limerick anyway, maybe not as much nationwide, he'd have been revered for being the best player on an unfancied county team.

But obviously then, I think what puts Mackie into a kind of supernova is that they are such a great team in the 1930s.

Win three All-Irelands, four or five Munsters, which just had never been done in Limerick.

It was completely new.

Before Mackie started, Limerick had won three All-Irelands in the 50 years or so since the GA was going.

I've seen this before.

My wife was from Clare and I started going down there in 1986 and Clare hadn't won the Munster Championship, I think.

I think it was 1931 or 32 with a most recent times they had one monster and obviously in that knockout era you had to get out of monster before you you you got to dance on on the national stage and you know they love their claire they love their sorry they love their hurling but um but they hadn't really hoped to show for it apart from a few league titles in in the 70s but my god once they won in 85 completely altered their mindset.

And if you look at Clare people since then and the way they the pride they have and the expectation i think as much that they have compared to what went before it's like night and day so look at they they haven't been in as anything like as many finals as we have um but every time they come to dublin every time they have a shout they expect to win and that's a completely different mindset from from before so i mean my hope and my expectation is is that that's what's new now you know that now that we have the weight lifted off us um we can think differently going forward because it's not the great quest anymore and it's not you know oh we hope we might win i was talking to paul onion there at the gate on sunday and he said that and it's so true he said you know if you're wearing the colors and you're outside the county
