Municipal council

For me, governance is a vocation and I just so happen to be really good at it.

So I consider myself an asset for the community and that is why I'm putting myself forward to represent the community at Municipal Council.

What unique challenges does your ward face?

Ward 2 is the fastest growing ward in Clarington with approximately 3,800 residents.

And now basically we're full steam ahead.

Not yet, because the project still has to get approval from the Municipal Council of Sherwood.

They said yes to the rezoning, but haven't yet approved the project in its entirety.

And that's when things start getting a little bit fuzzier, a little bit weirder.

So none of the resigned councillors have come out and said are resigned because of the data centre? No.

But the timing of the resignation stirred a lot of rumors and speculation that they were somehow connected, especially considering the previous baggage of the Sherwood Council.

Baggage? Okay, I'm going to take you down another rural municipal council tangent right now.

Okay, let's do it.

Back in 2022, the court had also barred Arushanyan from holding a leadership position in local government for five years.

A ruling Arushanyan ignored, he did not resign as mayor, and the Gori's Municipal Council did not terminate his mandate.

Now, citing his failure to comply with the five-year ban, the probation service has asked the anti-corruption court to replace his suspended sentence with imprisonment.

The court rejected the request.
