Mumblecore

It's one of the best things that she's ever done, I think.

I mentioned Mumblecore.

Both of these guys in West are part of that movement.

The Duplass brothers are too.

But it has the air of that.

Because of the people that we're fucking dealing with are mumblecore people.

The progenitors of Mumblecore.

Those are like this group of young adults that live in L.A. And they're the sort of people who probably, you know, Danny's movie was probably some Mumblecore elevated horror schlock fest or a B grade piece of garbage that he was coming up with making.

Who will ever know? We will never know because they spend most of the time filming themselves jumping in and out of the pool like boring.

But this movie came out like we were talking off camera before about the movies coming out specifically from Raven Banner and around this time that had these really stark female leads in really challenging roles.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, good fucking sequel in that series.

And the Mumblecore movie, Happy Christmas.

I had all of those on my list.

The two that I had that you didn't mention, I had The Babadook, which I think is a pretty solid horror film.

Okay, so there's like a turn of phrase that I have on the tip of my tongue and haven't quite gotten, so I'll just say that they worked in.

I mean, it seems like, at least with some of their previous films, there have been a lot of film festivals and probably interacted with a lot of these types of people and were maybe some of these types of people at one point or

another.

Yeah, because I think, and it's interesting because Mumblecore is, like, striving so hard for authenticity and emotion, which, like, it feels like taking that into, like, a horror context becomes a little, I don't know, like, it becomes different because it's just, like...

Cause I, at least I feel this way.

That had a distinct set of rules.

I don't think it's that dissimilar to Mumblecore, but Mumblecore is just kind of like a playground.

Let's see what we can do with no money and no script.

Just our buddies and a sundress and some converse.

straight up mumblecore movie.

And then it really slowly adds the extra element.

So it almost feels like it's a parody of Mumblecore, even though that movement at this point was very, very young.

It's very self-aware and it's definitely poking fun at itself and these kinds of movies.
