So it's pretty exciting.

Orville Peck is talking openly about the difficult personal period behind his new album, Mule, including addiction, recovery, and rebuilding his life and work.

And somebody wrote another article asking why country music has become so popular.

The album is called Mule, and it ends with a note of redemption and healing and a hint of lingering sadness.

It's out today, and Orville Peck, thank you so much for coming here to speak with us.

Yeah, thank you for having me.

Orville was with me to talk about his latest album called Mule.

Mule is full of songs that go really deep on Orville's sometimes public struggles over the last few years.

In 2023, he canceled an entire tour to go to rehab.

And he writes about that experience in this song called Rehab Blues.

So every song is an order of events from my peak chaos to my crazy dark kind of moments to going to rehab, getting sober.

getting back with my partner who I'd split up with.

And yeah, so Mule felt fitting because I think another big part of, uh, this album is sort of the struggle that I, that exacerbated a lot of my drinking and my using, which was, uh, you know, just sort of trying to grapple with like this public idea of what people had of me and kind of navigating this swift, like rise and success that I had in 2023 and, uh, being a very sensitive person, like not really having like a roadmap, which I don't think anybody does to how to navigate that kind of side of the industry.
