Mrs. Loomis

So Ghostface appears and reveals himself as Mickey, who shoots Derek.

Mickey then reveals his accomplice, Reporter Debbie Salt, who's actually Billy Loomis's mother.

Mrs. Loomis immediately shoots Mickey.

Sidney and Mrs. Loomis fight until Cotton Weary arrives with a gun, and despite Mrs. Loomis trying to turn him against Sidney, Cotton shoots her instead.

And then, again, you, you do, you get that, like, uh, uh, w- with Mrs. Loomis or whatever.

Uh, what's her name? Debbie?

Debbie Salt.

Debbie Salt.

Mm-hmm.

Yeah, so the reason I think we, we feel that it is contained is, well, A, that it is, but we have to understand that leading up to the finale, so let's just let people know we're ranking this finale when Billy Loomis, uh, lets Randy in, right?

Yes.

Yeah, from there up until just before the, the monologue at the end with Gale Weathers, okay? So prior to that, there is so much going on that, you know, obviously Sidney's running around the entire house.

It's just I think that it's a little bit overdone, a little bit too long.

So the finale starts where Sidney is kind of running on campus, and she goes into the auditorium.

She's yelling for Gus, and then, um, she gets the spotlight, and then Derek comes down all the way through when they shoot Mrs. Loomis.

I think that is the finale, and it is a long, long, long climax.

His plan involved killing people at Windsor College, manipulating Sidney, creating a massive public spectacle, getting caught, and using the subsequent trial to become famous.

His co-killer, Nancy Loomis, AKA Debbie Salt under the guise, wanted revenge for Billy.

Debbie Salt is actually Nancy Loomis, Billy's mother.

She blames Sidney and the people around her for Billy's death, and teams up with Mickey to carry out the murders.

And in the original screenplay, the killers were Derek and Hallie, her roommate and boyfriend.

Now, Debbie Loomis was still orchestrating it.

It's kind of like Scream 6, where there's a person who's getting these kids to do it, and she kills both of them.

And Gale dies, too, in the original screenplay.

God.

I questioned a lot of Sidney's taste in that.

Like, I can get behind Billy Loomis.

Anybody can get behind Billy Loomis.

Genius.

Laurie Metcalf as Debbie Salt and no one else.

Uh...

Rebecca Gayheart as Sorority Sister Lois.

The last time you would have seen a screen movie back in the year 2000, the guy who ended that movie, he has the last line of the movie.

He saves Sydney from Mrs. Loomis.

He is the one that gets taken down.

He is the message of this opening.

So you were trying to think of the next person.

When I first watched this as a kid, I didn't expect Debbie Salt to be Billy Loomis' mother.

But it was clever how they did that.

Only, I think only Gale interacts with her.

And I'm like, going back watching, like, oh, that's really clever.

That is.

You find out that Billy Loomis' mother, who abandoned him...

That family sucks.

Or, you know, you're thinking, oh, okay, I guess they did it, you know? And I know it's been said on the podcast that Jessica's screen time compares to Mrs.

Loomis or Roman.

And while mathematically, yes, I agree that that's probably accurate, but This is why I don't think that those comparisons work.

Mrs. Loomis comes into Scream 2 carrying the emotional baggage of the first film, right? We already know Billy.

We already know what he did.

We already know how his family was destroyed.

When she's revealed to be his mother, the audience instantly understands the motive.

We don't have to spend an extra 20 minutes with Mrs. Loomis to understand why she wants revenge, right? We fill in those gaps for ourselves because the first film already did the work.
