I'm doing that right after the, right, either right before or right after the Steve shows.

And, and, uh, yeah, we met, we were both playing on, on the Mountain Stage show, and, uh, we were instant friends.

And, um, fast-forward, I think the next, a few, a few months later, he asked me to open some shows for him, and so I did.

What does it take to impress a star? Mountain stage host and country music's Kathy Matea remembers that time Dolly Parton sang directly to her.

I mean, I am suddenly across a table and Dolly Parton is singing to us, not on a mic.

not on a stage,

Highs in the upper 80s and 90s.

This week, Inside Appalachia remembers Dolly Parton, not just as a musician and celebrity, but also as a voice for Appalachian humor, resilience and kindness.

Inside Appalachia's Mason Adams spoke with mountain stage host and country star Kathy Matea, who shared some of her memories.

When Dolly passed away, you posted on your Facebook page a few of your your memories and you told one story about appearing on a TV show that Burt Reynolds hosted with Lori Morgan, Tanya Tucker and Dolly Parton.

So it started in more so radio.

So I worked in public radio and pure music from hosting national programming like Mountain Stage to producing local music discovery or even hosting local All Things Considered or podcast production.

That grew over time to the point where about five issues ago, I left public media and I became an employee at the Podglomerate.

And the Podglomerate, again, is a consulting services agency where we do a wide variety of work.

We have Kathy Matej on the show multiple times.

She's the host of Mountain Stage.

Chris Lawrence sent me a note on Saturday night.

He was watching the Grand Ole Opry live.

Absolutely.

I want to talk about Mountain Stage, but I did need to mention that the Grand Ole Opry is going to honor Dolly during their show on Saturday.

And Carly Pierce, who launched her career at Dollywood, is going to host the show.

But Kathy Matej is going to be on that show.

Oh, that's great.

So that'll be Saturday night at the Opry.

Let's talk a little bit about what's going on on Mountain Stage on September the 13th here in Charleston.

Yeah, we've got a couple of weeks away here,

But Tony Trischka was a, a guest on our show in the 3:00 hour, the so-called father of new grass, bluegrass music.

He'll be performing on Sunday at, at Mountain Stage at the, the Culture Center here in Charleston.

Had a really interesting conversation with him in the 3:00 hour.
