Mountain Project

This was the first time that Drew was embarking on such a big trip with people he barely knew.

Back then, I think, like, you think about when you first start climbing, like, you'll meet, you'll, like, put up a, I don't know, meet somebody on Mountain Project or, like, write a note looking for partners, and you don't really, like, care.

You're just, like, climbing and doing stuff.

And I mean, I'd been climbing for a long time when I went on this expedition, but this was, like, a different level of that.

And I think it is.

It's just 513 on Mountain Project.

And I've heard people say it's 13B.

I think that breakdown of like V8 or 9 to V8 or 9 is probably 13C.

Yeah.

Has there thus far been anybody creating like a repository of information specifically for the art of free climbing these trees? Oh, like a mountain project? I mean, whether it's digital or someone's black book, like.

No, actually, I think there's been like, I mean, I think we're all kind of lazy.

We're all just like, we just want to climb and make videos and take it easy.

That, that sort of mindset doesn't work longterm.

It's, it's still something you're grappling with every time you go outside and you look at Mountain Project and, and someone's asking you the difficulty of the route you're on.

You kinda have to engage with grades in some way.

And I feel like i-in my experience, the, the best way to gain, to, to keep that like satisfaction without hyper fixating on the grade is to find other m- quantifiable methods to, to measure the difficulty or the effort you've put in, whether it's like volume or, or hours spent outside or, you know, o-other things that are quantifiable.

So I call it a 19 plus pitch route.

Um, mountain project has it as 32.

So, but it's a massive route.

however you break it down.

Um, It is uncommon to do in a single push.

There are people who do it.

I have seen ticks on Mountain Project about people doing it in a similar style and similar time.

Like John and I took 19 hours camp to camp, which was a pretty good, pretty good go.

We got lost.

Um, we used the GPS coordinates from Mountain Project, which are garbage, and so then we downloaded Kaya Pro, which I used to have, and then I wasn't bouldering as much anymore, and so I redownloaded it, and it just took us exactly where we needed to go, which was nice.

Shout out Kaya.

And got to our boulders, and then just did some really fun bouldering.

That's probably true.

So I think it would be amazing if, because this, I think, I mean, I frequently advise people to look up on Mountain Project or 8A if they're a short climber and just see in the region what climbs other short climbers have

done.

But what are the grades for, what do the grade, what are the grades that shorter climbers take versus what are the grades that taller climbers take? And what taller climbers have success on or they don't have success on.
