Mountain Man

It's true, I was.

And she was like in f- playing in Feist and Mountain Man, and like all these bands that were like actually big.

Anyway.

Yeah.

Oh, this is a review of our self-titled record.

I used to look out my window and see this woman walking up Mangum Street wearing five-inch platform moon boots.

Turns out, that was Sylvan Esso singer Amelia Meath, who used to be one-third of the cult acapella group Mountain Man from Bennington, Vermont.

At some point, she crossed paths with Megaphone bassist Nick Sanborn, who had been making throbbing laptop beats on his own.

But as I've gone through my career, it's come to seem more and more like if we could answer it, there are a lot of things we would understand that we don't right now.

Today on Unexplainable, I talk to someone who makes music, and I talk to a scientist who studies it to try and figure out, how does music do this to us? [instrumental music] Before she was in Sylvan Esso, before she was in Mountain Man, for the real Meath-heads out there, before she even got too big for a car seat, Amelia would sit and listen to the radio.

I was in the back of my father's purple minivan, and The Who's Behind Blue Eyes came on.

And I was, like, three.
