Mount Washington Cog Railway

Um, there's a couple of ways that people can get to the top of that mountain.

Uh, we've got the Mount Washington Cog Railway, uh, which is the world's oldest, uh, mountain climbing cog railway.

And then we also have the Mount Washington Auto Road, uh, which you can either, if you're in a car, you can drive yourself, or they do offer guided van tours to the summit as well.

Oh.

So, when I reached Portsmouth, New Hampshire, I turned west and drove towards the White Mountains and the Presidential Range.

I entered the White Mountains and took the Cog Railway up to the summit of Mount Washington.

Standing there, gazing across the expanse to the smaller peaks of the White Mountains and surveying the green pine forests below, feeling the cold arctic winds that seemed out of place in the early days of August, I finally sensed a rebirth within myself.

I was alone, but at last, I was standing tall.
