Mount Stirling

On October 24th, 2019, Niels left up for Jamieson Hut to start his journey.

It seems as though Niels was right on course to complete his five-day hike, as on October 26th he messaged some family members from Valeho Gattner Hut to tell them he was heading to Mount Stirling and then heading back to his vehicle on the 29th as planned.

He never made it back though, and that's where the mystery begins.

Niels was reported as missing after his family hadn't heard from him in two weeks, as they had possibly thought he simply needed more time.

How did skiing lead to a volunteering side of your life?

Yeah, so look, Ski Patrol, I'd been skiing at a place called Mount Stirling, which is near Mount Bulla.

So Mount Bulla is one of probably the busiest resorts.

Mount Stirling is only a couple of kilometres from Mount Bulla, but it's a backcountry resort.

So it's still quite, it has steep bowls and gullies and all that sort of stuff.

But yeah, no lifts.
