Mount Hood

None of his three wives had survived the honeymoon.

Wife number one, an aviatrix, bailed out at 10,000 feet over Mount Hood along with her husband.

His parachute opened, hers didn't.

They found the body the following spring.

Darling, if it frightens you, I promise I'll never do it again.

How did you drop 10,000 feet without a parachute?

Oh, that Mount Hood stunt? I crash-landed the plane, set fire to it.

There were witnesses.

So tell me, where is Oregon Trail School District in the state? You're kind of a square, right? Like, where is it in the state?

We're east of Portland, and we're just west of Mount Hood.

So we kind of sit at the base of Mount Hood, just on the edge of the metro.

Oh, okay.

Well, I know Mount Hood well.

You guys ski and mountain bike and all that good stuff, obviously.

How good is Mount Hood in the winter?

Honestly, Mount Hood in the winter, it's not that amazing.

Like, it's my favorite ski resort to ski at because I think it's really fun and I'm used to it and I do think it is great.

But in terms of snow quality and days that are good for filming and just terrain that's good for filming, a lot of times we have to leave Oregon to go film specific videos.

I think so.

In our center field, the backdrop of the Cascade Range with Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, it's just a beautiful backdrop.

And if anybody's been to this area, it's 80 degrees, sunny, no humidity, no bugs, and stays light until 945.

So bring baseball on.

Um, and so we'll see.

We're going to do a 230 mile relay in Oregon from Mount Hood to the coast.

So there's 12 of us.

So we'll get about 20 miles a piece running, running that.

Yeah, that's what I was gonna get at.

So, like, uh, I mean, so you did pin a bib at, was it, uh, Mount Hood? Was it, there was like a, a race that you did around Mount Hood?

Yeah, so I, I DNF'd that one, but we did-- I did a couple other ones-

Seven leagues below the fort, we leaped the Grand Rapid without accident.

From thence, we began to see the white summit of Mount Hood, whose base is the Cascades Range.

On this day, the twentieth, our provisions becoming short, two horses were purchased for food, for which the Indians were paid ten dollars apiece.

The Columbia being pretty low at this season of the year, our two boats touched the ground in descending the seventh rapid on that day.

They retain some peculiarities of their Indian ancestors, among which is the not unfrequent use of the moccasin, though usually it is made of ornamented cloth instead of deerskin.

The approach to this, the principal establishment of the Hudson's Bay Company in the West, gives a stranger a high idea of its prosperity and importance.

The thickly peopled village, the highly cultivated fields, the absence of all guards and defenses, the guns of the fort having long since been dismounted, the civilized appearance of its interior, and the activity and energy which prevails, the noble river, here 1,700 yards wide, on which perhaps some of the company's vessels, brigs, or steamers, well appointed, manned, and armed, are at anchor, and these are heightened in the effect by the magnificent scenery by which it is surrounded, the noble woods flanking the mighty stream and backed by lofty mountains, the snow-covered peaks of Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens towering over all, while the wildflowers and fruits in their season carpet the ground in wild luxuriance.

This fort was established by Governor Simpson in 1824, and its present importance justified his selection of its site.
