Mount Desert Island

Today's question has to do with the unofficial end of summer tourist season.

Of course we're going to be seeing visitors returning to Maine in the fall as foliage starts to peak, but in the mid 1800s, locals on Mount Desert Island gave a special nickname to city visitors who came seeking fresh air, simple lodging, and a taste of rustic life.

What was that nickname? What did locals call the out of towners coming to the beautiful island during the summer months will tell you at the end of the show.

If you recall, the question was, beginning in the mid-1800s, city dwellers came to Mount Desert Island to get some fresh air, take in the dramatic scenery, and enjoy a taste of rustic life, often staying with local fishermen and farmers, too.

Um, w- uh, so it's funny.

It, it goes back to my days actually working in a restaurant up in Maine, and I had met a lot of people up in, uh, you know, uh, where, where I'd spent summers and up in, on Mount Desert Island in Maine.

And I worked in a restaurant and, uh, spent a lot of time with, uh, not only friends up there but also with a lot of the local people up there, and I got to know two brothers there.

most beautiful place in the world.

Uh, I don't know if that was done with her remains after they were interred or if that was, you know, I don't know the exact situation, but some people claim that she is like in that graveyard.

but the graveyard itself supposedly has a portal because that's where they've said that the like whatever the shadow entity that some people say isn't like the back half of the cemetery that supposedly is because of a portal being there as well so different places on the island all around not just like Bar Harbor but Acadia and Mount Desert Island as a whole have all this different stuff and we originally planned on talking about witchcraft, but I do love that question.

So here, here we got Mount desert Island.

So over here is Northeast Harbor seal Harbor down here.

ubiquitous.

But also this island in Maine that I'm on right now, Mount Desert Island, a piece of Sierra dropped in the Atlantic.

It's much more humid, and lichen is everywhere.

And they're so interesting, a combination of a fungi and an algae.

so one of the reasons i asked you to come on here wasn't because jen had the iron man coming up or you just did the iron man last year but a lot of the both of you support each other a lot and i know there's a couple stories around boston when you're chasing jen around the course and supporting her through her training i also know eddie you draw the line at some points and that line is new york yeah let's share some stories about you know because jen you've supported eddie when you've been support crew and eddie you've done the same for jen do you have any fun stories of boston new york of iron man of being the supporter here in the relationship

i think it just came off of chicago so it was like Chicago, Richmond, and I think Mount Desert Island.

I think we just did like one, we still had one more left.

And I was like, I just ran two marathons in two months and Eddie had a long run, 16 miles.
