With three companies currently doing exploration in the county, officials say they want public comments now to help shape a framework for future mining activity and identify opportunities, needs, and challenges.

Public meetings are scheduled for September 26 at 11 a.m. in Hornitos at Stagg Hall, and again September 26 at 2 p.m. for the Mount Bullion and Bear Valley area at the Mariposa Yosemite Airport Conference Room.

A virtual follow-up for Hornitos, Mount Bullion and Bear Valley is set for October 5 at 6 p.m., and a countywide infrastructure, housing and funding workshop will be held October 7 at 6 p.m., both at the Government Center and online.

Also in local public affairs, the Mariposa County Schools Foundation, known as Kids First, says it has now funded more than $1 million in teacher grants since 1992.

In calendar year 2025 alone, teachers received nearly $53,000 through 49 grants for projects including Music Fluency, Local Birds of Cathy's Valley, a Makerspace STEM Center, and Social Emotional Development.
