Motza'ei Shabbat

I want to share a sicha that has been going around, that Rav Moshe Lichtenstein delivered on Motzei Shabbos last week, this past week, at Yishrat HaArikyum, Nekosh.

in which really his launching point is Selichot.

And I'll share kind of two thoughts from his talk.

Judah, what is your By the Country?

On Motzei Shabbat, after saying Havdalah, putting the kids to bed, and straightening up, my wife Anna and I got a babysitter and headed out.

Now, we had done the same thing a couple nights earlier to go to Zichron Yaakov's, uh, wine festival, but tonight we were going to shul.

When we moved to Zichron Yaakov, we, uh, joined our synagogue, which is uninspiringly called Neve HaBaron, as it is located in Zichron Yaakov's residential Neve HaBaron neighborhood, meaning the baron's residence, referring to Zichron Yaakov's patron, the Baron de Rothschild.

And this perekh is the final piece of the final haftarah of Nechama.

As we said, there are shiva de-nechimta, seven haftarahs of comfort, that take us from Motzei Tisha B'Av to Erev Rosh Hashanah, and we're on the last one.

And that last one on Parashat Nitzavim has three different perakim from Yeshayahu which we read from.

We have a piece from Perek samech alef.

But you also have to bear in mind that you're going to have another meal.

Motzei Shabbos is the second night of Rosh Hashanah as a Sudah.

Um, so you have to have Shaleh Shodesh in the afternoon.

Um, and this is something important for men to remember as well.

Okay, now, that's in terms of taking in Shabbos.

L'gabi Motzei Shabbos? So this gets a little more tricky.

Because Motzei Shabbos now, the Gra is the Kula, Rabbeinu Tam is the Chumar.

We're dealing with Daraises over here.

And therefore in the Mechad we're passing like Rabbeinu Tam.

Therefore, Motzei Shabbos, and just hold your horses over here and I can explain what I mean with this.

Motzei Shabbos, we're passing like Rabbeinu Tam.

Everyone passes like Rabbeinu Tam.

But what do they have to say? They're in Moshe Shabbat.

If they're in already Motzei Shabbat, then why so to speak do they have to remind God, on Motzei Shabbat, I want you to start listening to my Selichot.

But they are in Motzei Shabbat.

So why are they saying in the Selichot, Beimotzei Yom Minuha.

Seems to be that there is again a correlation, a connection between Shabbat and Selichot.
