Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever

Yeah.

Motown 25, the Motown 25 anniversary when he first revealed the moonwalk.

I said like, I was like, that's me.

Music did.

So when I was growing up, I remember everybody, the Motown 25 thing was happening or that was a big thing where they were still showing Motown videos because like the Temptations had hits, Marvin Gaye had hits, all these people who are popular.

And when they would show old clips of them, the old black and white clips, I would ask my parents, like, why is it only white people in the audience? And they would have to explain to me how it was back then.

They were like, we couldn't go to the show.

Yep.

You know, and then I saw the Motown 25.

Hmm.

And when I saw him dance and doing that moonwalk for the first time, my jaw was wide open.

Mm-hmm.

And, of course, at the Motown 25 yesterday, today, forever broadcast on May the 15th of 1983, which was shown to over 50 million people.

Because what else are you really going to watch? I was going to say, you've got four

channels.

The Moonwalk.

Billie Jean was one of the first videos I had.

First of all, I saw Michael Jackson when they did the Motown 25, or which one, maybe it was 50, but whichever it was, where he danced and did Billie Jean for the first time live, right? And I'd always been interested in dance as a child, but that was a type of dance style, especially the moonwalk, that was just shocking to see.

It was just, it was incredible.

Yes.

Yeah.

You know, um, I remember watching Motown 25, and you were on that, and that show is infamous, obviously because everybody came back, but of course Michael Jackson shot through the atmosphere after that.

What was it like being there when that was happening?

Oh, it was mystical, and I felt like I was in a dream, and it was a lot of waiting and staying about, but we actually saw Michael Jackson land in the helicopter.

The Michael Jackson Fashion Legacy Evening Auction will be part of Julian's Celebrity and Pop Culture Experience taking place on December 7th and 9th in Abu Dhabi.

One of the items is the rhinestone-covered glove that Jackson wore while performing Billie Jean during his 1983 Motown 25 performance where he debuted the Moonwalk.
