Most Haunted

The truth doesn't matter.

Thanks to King's story and Kubrick's film, people already believe the Stanley is one of America's most haunted hotels.

Each eager guest leaves with a new story to tell.

Fast forward to the late 1980s, in room 217, a housekeeper finishes making the bed, only to return minutes later and find the pillows unfluffed and the comforter pulled down, as if someone invisible is preparing to go to sleep.

By the late 1990s, the Stanley Hotel is actively embracing its eerie fame.

The hotel launches nightly, spirited night tours.

guiding visitors to its most haunted rooms.

Even a resident psychic is on staff and regaling them with tales of Flora's Phantom Piano, F.O. Stanley's Wandering Spirit, and, of course, the benevolent maid of Room 217.

Now, we're having a really interesting conversation about the technical aspects of the way that you're looking at gathering evidence, and it's really interesting.

Given that most paranormal investigation groups tend to rely on... sensationalism maybe is probably not the right word but you know if somebody hears a noise somewhere it's all it's what I call the most haunted effect yeah you know so it's it's really interesting to sort of hear what what now the I get the impression that you're more sort of empathic towards what's going on around you physically kirstie you can pick things up a little bit more than than the two

Batch was video cameraing down the other alley, and then the EMF started flicking, you know, sort of quite far up into the orange, and when it goes into the red, it beeps as well.

So I had a couple of flicks into the red, and I shouted to him, I said, start videoing me, because I couldn't see, I was in pitch black.

And he turned the camera to me, and we'd only been videoing five minutes, instantly the power drained completely, which I think is a fairly common I remember from watching most haunted that happened a lot.

So we then went back upstairs and changed it.

That's, it's the only thing

So what do you think it could be? You're, you're being very, you know, like Glenn Hunt on Most Haunted, very open-minded-

... skeptic, which is the right way to be, I think.

That is the first time I've done a Ouija board, actually.

Yeah.

I've done the table tipping before, uh, Most Haunted, and I've felt it move, but I haven't done the, um, uh, the Ouija board.

And actually though, we were asking the Ouija board a lot of questions, so we were getting a lot of answers with a yes and no at the end, to do it.

I have to have this demon, otherwise it's not worth it.

I noticed that with Most Haunted, one of the original ghost hunting programs, it didn't talk about that kind of stuff at first, until it got popular in America, I'm afraid.

And then Ghost Hunters started doing it because I think they felt like they had to keep up.

Yes, I can understand that, certainly.

I mean, when Most Haunted first appeared on TV here, everyone believed it was genuine.

I think some of the early stuff was definitely genuine, but it's like, ham it up.

Pleasley Vale Mills have been visited by numerous paranormal investigators.

They were even investigated by Most Haunted in the early 2000s.

Do you remember them?

Oh, yes.

It was one of the first real paranormal investigation shows.

It was called Most Haunted with Yvette Fielding and Carl Beattie.

And I'm sure everyone has seen that show.

Yeah.

And sadly, lightning and fire took it down.

And there was even a neighbor that lived next door to Summerwind said the township was tired of people trespassing on the property, so they leveled it.

And where I come in in 2014 for Summerwind is I go ahead and buy the original engineering diagrams to Summerwind from Rayvon Bober Jr., and I seeked out a connection – to the owners of the property and i came across a guy named craig naring from the fox valley ghost hunters or fox valley paranormal team up in wisconsin and i found out that craig was good friends with harold and babs and used to go into summerwind so i i made up a copy of the blueprints and we started the summerwind restoration society in 2014 to restore rebuild a launch summer once you were trying to add uh public donations to rebuild one of the most haunted mansions in the midwest And then what happened was after a while, we basically kept that project going as long as we could.

The benefits were raising money, and we got an estimate done on the original blueprints to Summerwind around the – 2016-2017.

I know that probably sounds nonsense, but that's the only real memory that I have of it.

And then what really got me into it then was the TV programme Most Haunted.

I think my parents started letting me watch that when I was, I don't know, about eight or nine, ten.

Probably really far too young, but, you know, different back then.

This is this is a little too much.

Yeah,

well, the standout one there, then, is when we visited 30 East Drive, which is reportedly the most haunted house in the UK.

It has very, very mixed reviews.
