Mosiuoa Lekota

In the weeks that follow, Simon is arrested, along with many others.

In the end, twenty-two people are put on trial together, among them leaders of the United Democratic Front, men named Popo Molefe and Terror Lekota and Mos Jokane.

The charges include treason, and they are the kind that can carry a sentence of death.

The case comes to be called the Delmas Treason Trial, after the small town where it begins.

But Simon does not go quiet.

He talks, and he argues, and he stays in the room.

And over time, men like Terror Lekota and Popo Molefe come to see that the prejudice against gay people is a kind of oppression, too, close kin to the one they are all on trial for fighting.

Then comes a moment in the courtroom.
