Mortal Kombat

I like that.

September 9th of 1994, Midway and Acclaim Entertainment releases Mortal Kombat 2 on Game Boy, Game Gear, Super NES, and the Genesis.

Probably the most highly regarded of the Mortal Kombat games.

You know, I have more sentimental value to the original.

But I'll admit, 2 is a better game.

It is.

I hate to say that, but man, so many quarters were sunk into the Mortal Kombat 2 arcade machine that was at the restaurant I worked at.

That's all we did on break was play Mortal Kombat 2.

But the first of 100, let's talk about it, man, because I was very surprised how this event was not only... executed and received but the results but uh first off did you expect this to generate the buzz that it did because to be honest i i know i concocted this in the lab a little bit i'm very surprised how many people tuned in and how much of a reaction a first to 100 set actually generated in the fgc sphere because a lot of people were watching and talking about it

i'm very surprised with how many people were watching definitely because It wasn't a you know, it wasn't a Street Fighter or a Tekken, a Mortal Kombat.

It was Avatar.

That was, you know, one of the you know, one of the side games, one of the games nobody's really talking about.

He beat me at several games.

He dummied me at Mortal Kombat.

I thought I was going to be good at Mortal Kombat.

I even tried.

I played the night before.

Final round.

What music should we put on for this one? Probably something like this.

Mortal Kombat.

Also use the actual game characters.

Fucking Mortal Kombat and Until Dawn bullshit.

What was the name of that guy? The

main character in Mortal Kombat? Cole.

Yo, I'm still mad that they dropped that Mortal Kombat pack with all those games inside of it and didn't give a Shaolin Monks.

Y'all do know the best Mortal Kombat game of all was Shaolin Monks, right? There has to be a

licensing issue because it doesn't make sense.

Even in the newer Mortal Kombats where they had the conquest mode, you could see they were clearly trying to get towards an adventure and you had an adventure and we all loved it.

So what are we doing not touching this again? It has to be a licensing issue.

The arcade mode, you can also choose to play through the arcade mode from 1, 2 or 3.

And that's before you get to the titular tower, which is basically kind of like the towers they've got in Mortal Kombat, I guess.

They kind of branch a little bit depending on what you might or might not end up doing in a round at certain points.

Yeah.

And like, don't get me wrong.

The, the different things you come across on the tower are not so wild that it's like playing a completely different game or anything like that.

I think it was one of the Mortal Kombats, there was one where you're having to dodge someone's missiles constantly, and suddenly it's almost like you're having to put your shoot-em-up hat on and duck, jump, and root your way through these missiles.

But It doesn't feel like a half-arsed shove-it-out-the-door thing.

... no electricity and all this other stuff, and then come to find out, like it's in the '80s or '90s and like there's electricity, and like people are like, "What?" [laughs] So it's just like, you can't do that 'cause you're just gonna really shock the heck out of that community and all that stuff.

But long ways of sh- of saying, like, you know, just the idea of like balancing tech and play, and sure it's fun to like play games with your kids, video games, I'm all for that, playing Mario Kart or Mortal Kombat or NHL, [laughs] you know, uh, on the PlayStation.

But like can you share the balance, the importance of balancing like outdoor play, actual like physical play, and then, you know, obviously tech play and like the different ... benefits for each one? I know it's a loaded question, but it just like, I feel like you're a really good, uh, good person to ask this.

A way to think about that.

You know, that's what I really love the most about it.
