With headlines around Kentucky, I'm Toby Gibbs.

Morehead State University hosted the first regional conference for aspiring teachers this week.

Educators Rising is an organization that supports high school students interested in the profession.

Organizers were hoping to recruit 100 students for the conference, but ended up seeing more than 200 from 12 different schools.

We are hosting the very first regional Educators Rising conference at Morehead State University.

Educators Rising is an organization that encourages high school students to become teachers.

We know the teaching profession is such a valued profession in our community and we need great teachers to inspire students in various professions.

And so hosting an event here in the region, serving our 22-county service region is so important to ensure that our schools have this opportunity.

This tends to be kind of a special case.

This particular distillery exists in Moorhead, Kentucky, which I don't know if a lot of our listeners are familiar with, but it's a little more rural and remote.

It's sort of away from any large cities by quite a ways.

the USDA has come in and backed those loans to the bank.

So, you know, hopefully they're like the jobs, because this is a large employment facility.

sector you know when you talk about a distillery it brings a lot of jobs to these local economies so um you know i'm excited that they're these are actually being brought back and they're not just sitting there emptying not you know not producing anything for anybody uh so i i do like the fact that you know sasrac is buying gary county distilling they're just going to provide jobs for people in that local community so

So is Stone Fences going to start taking tours to Moorhead?

Well, I graduated from Moorhead State, Jim, so I know that area well.

Feel free to go ahead and share what you experienced over there in Kentucky.

Yeah, the experience took place in Morehead, Kentucky, near Cape Run Lake.

You can look it up and Google that.

In 1977.

At the time, no further sign of Thomas was found, and it would take another decade before investigators would be able to close the case.

On August third, 2014, a hunter walking off Forestry Ridge Road near Morehead in the Daniel Boone National Park discovered the skull of an adult male.

The Rowan County Coroner's Office was called to the scene and following a full investigation and examination, the coroner was able to determine that the skull belonged to Thomas Ray James.

According to reports, the coroner was unable to determine the exact cause of death and the circumstances of Thomas' disappearance have been under investigation since his discovery in 2014.

Marcus said, "Papaw got hurt at the brickyard." Me or Janie 1 said, "He's at home." We said just because for a minute we felt real dumb.

Just because what else is there to say? Marcus said, "His leg and his hip got crushed, that he's in Morehead at the hospital." Then he said, "Ma and Pa borrowed the Gunther's car to take Mamaw over." Me or Janie 1 said, "The hospital? They gonna take his leg off." Marcus shrugged all nervous and said, "I reckon.

But it's his insides we ought to worry about.

He got crushed clean up to here." And Marcus touched his hand midway up the left side of his waist.

Talking to the foreman right before everything happened." But the him and the hat, that's just the sort of thing you remember in times like that.

But I knew even then this wouldn't be the end of it.

Me myself, that dumb little girl who'd finished school age 17 and was too poor to go to Morehead College, so she went to work in the sewing factory.

Me, myself, I knew that man was the devil.

I'm sorry, Mississippi Valley State has won two games.

We can start to have the conversation that Morehead State's the worst team in all of college, all, all of the FCS.

Remember we, we talked about this one time.

What if Kentucky and Louisville hosted Eastern, Western, Murray, Morehead, had our own little in-state tournament?

No. No.

I would s- I would like that for summer basketball tournament.

But no, I do not wa- That's the last thing I wanna do-

That to me sounds like the ...

You gotta love him.

Mr. Morehead stayed out of Kentucky, comes to New York, and now he's friends and being represented by Jewish people.

He never met a Jewish person in Kentucky, trust me.

At the time, there was only one other ultra active in the state of Kentucky, and that was over in Eastern Kentucky at Morehead.

So yeah, we started there and, you know, just had the 23rd running, and everything goes well.
